Sorry if this has been discussed, but I noticed that when my iphone 6s is on the home screen (with the clock) and I swipe up to bring the control center up, the animation is kinda laggy.

Notification center is very smooth, but control center lags most of the time and has choppy animation.

Is this normal/same for everyone in ios 9.2?

Yes......its been an issue with all phones new or old since iOS8. Everything is software related unfortunately .

Ok thanks guys, hopefully apple finally fixes this. It is something that bothered me on my iphone 5c, but i thought it was because the phone was 3 years old... and when i realized that my new iphone 6s had the same issue, I kinda wondered wth is wrong here. :D

On the 6s if reduce motion and transparency is off, the control center slightly stutters at the top end of the travel in the home screen. If reduce motion and transparency is on, there is no stutter in the same place.

I have reduce motion and transparency on.

This happens on pretty much every device that supports metal. No such control center issues exist on the iPhone 5. Yes, the iPhone 5 is smoother than the iPhone 6S with control center. I have both devices, I've used them side by side. The 6S is perfectly fine sometimes, but other times it is very noticeable. Same deal with my iPhone 6, but it is much worse usually. Tapping on the airdrop button has more apparent issues if you still can't see it. Sometimes it's smooth on the 6S, sometimes it isn't. It always is on the 5 though. Control center is perfect on iPhone 5 when used over the lock screen, home screen, open folder, and the app switcher (if you aren't looking just at the home screen card) but all of those scenarios are bad on iPhone 6 and they choke up a bit at times on the 6S.

This is about control center performance on the home and lock screens by the way, the iPhone 5 chokes up with the airdrop menu when control center is used in different areas, for example, over a keyboard or open folder. It isn't perfect, but it's much better.

Also I've noticed that the control centers look a little different across devices. iPhone 5S and higher I think has translucent buttons and sliders, iPhone 5 does not.

First and second photos are screenshots from an iPhone 6, standard and zoomed mode. Control center performs generally the same. The last screenshot is from an iPhone 5. Notice the lack of translucent buttons and sliders. Disabled buttons are colored lighter as well

Whats wrong is that the transparency and blurring introduced in iOS 7 has been a constant bag of hurt and gone are the days of silky smoothness in iOS. There are threads full of people who want things as smooth as iOS 8.....which was not totally smooth either.

Even the iPad pro.....4GB of RAM and the A9X processor drop frames during animations in multitasking........so the moral is just accept it. the moaning has gone on for over two years now and clearly Apple doesn't care. They've changed so much architecture in iOS 7, then 8, now 9 that new problems keep popping up and smooth animations is the lowest priority unfortunately.

Sad truth I think. :(

Hopefully iOS 10 refreshes the design a little and reduces the unnecessary instances of blurring a bit. Probably won't happen though.

Indeed my iPhone 5s runs smooth on iOS9.2 for both Control Center and Notification Center and even Spotlight search. There is still some minor lag with third party keyboards like Swype or Go Keyboard.

The lag with my iPad mini2 running iOS9.2 is especially with Spotlight search and when a third party keyboard is selected it stutters before it shows. This is not the case with Apple's own keyboard. Although I did notice some differences with e.g. Go Keyboard in comparison with Swype (Swype stutters more). Both had recent app updates for iOS9. I have heard that beta 9.2.1 resolves keyboard lag. Let's wait and see when that becomes available in the final release.

Doubtful, iOS 10 will be a major revision as iOS 9 was the "performance...(cough cough HACK!) and stability release." So while they'll no doubt add tons of cool new stuff to iOS next year it will once again tax things more and more at the cost of performance and stability.

Yeah my iPad mini 2 is not going to iOS 10 I can tell you that right now if it's this bad now holy crap I can't even imagine iOS 10 on it with that being a much more eventful release.

I'll probably tell you this now and update anyway out of the urge to have the newest stuff lol then complain more later on. Kinda sad. I'm one of the very vocal few people complain about and it likely will get worse with iOS 10.

Im really hoping Apple kicks into gear and finally delivers their promises of better performance and smoother animation by the end of iOS 9. iOS 8 wasn't truly what it was meant to be with all its features until very late into its cycle. iOS 9 might be the same. This is why Apple should release big updates every other year and trickle little features in along the way in my opinion.

By iPhone 5s did you mean multiple iPhone 5 devices or the iPhone 5S with the A7 chip? Because I've heard that the 5S is choppy just like the iPhone 6 while the regular 5 is smoothest with control center and such. I find it surprising how well the 5 has aged especially when compared to the 4S. Spotlight/CC/NC are absolute disasters on the 4S while it is perfect on the 5. Pretty much been that way since iOS 7.

Speaking of absolute disasters, iPad mini 2 and iPad Air are horrendous just like you described. I mainly just want the app switcher and Spotlight fixed, they are so bad. 9.2 helped for the app switcher but it still isn't good at all. iOS 9.1 broke spotlight, the blurring was pretty smooth and the keyboard came up pretty smooth in 9.0.x (better than iOS 8!), but iOS 9.1 made everything worse. The delay half way through the pull down when swiping spotlight quickly is a bit better now but the animation of the keyboard and blurring is way more choppy. Control center is also often choppy just like my iPhone 6, and opening folders tends to jump extremely bad the first time you open them on my iPhone 6 and iPad mini 2.

AGH I want it all fixed so badly. I report it so much and it's simply ignored in favor of bringing support to other products that were late to the game, enhancing the safari view controller, enabling Apple Pay in a couple more countries, adding other little features, etc. So annoying. Apple stop. Smooth it out.

Agreed, for years we only got Mac OS updates every 2-3 years. Now because of the yearly release cycle of phones there needs to be a major software upgrade......and I get it. But I really think Apple should put a pause on major new features unless the hardware calls for it like 3D Touch. iOS 9 was major for iPad with split screen, Apple news etc. They seemed to be able to manage up till iOS 7. This year brought a whole new category of device with Apple Watch. Major updates to iPad and Apple TV. Hopefully 2016 will be about rounding out what were somewhat hollow products like the watch, Apple Music and iPad pro. Because they all have the potential to be amazing. The problem is that Apple is now in the habit of releasing almost amazing things.

I think they are working on it. For my 6S+ it did get less severe with 9.2

The only issue which I have with the ipad mini2 is the lag with the 3rd party keyboards (especially with Swype).

Apple is not going to stop with these releases. There are people, like me, who look past cc stutter and want new features.

And who says ipp is hollow? Granted it's not for everyone, but you know if you want one. Read the iPad forum.

Apple Music from what I've read could be improved.

Yeah but that's their flagship. What about the year old iPhone 6?

It is better on my legacy 6+ than 9.1 however it is no where near as good as the 6S+.
Unexpectedly I received a great XMas gift (18yr bottle of Macallan and an iPad Mini 4) and can say that the Mini4 is much much better than my Mini3 however the Mini4 still has issues - kind of like the 6+ vs. the 6S+.

No it doesn't, you just can't see the drop from 60 fps.

Apple doesn't care about smooth UI. Things are getting worse each year.

It does not run smooth, it's just that you can't see it.

The control center animation skips frames on every A7 device or higher.
