I found something interesting about that pop up. I have an iPhone 6 Plus which I use as my daily driver and an iPhone 6 that I keep at home mostly. The 6 has been in airplane mode for a few days now yet it also got the same pop up. That tells me it wasn't pushed to us, it was already set to pop up at an specific time I'm guessing.
