You are saying letting average people mess with the file system in their phones is going to result in something useful in most instances when the majority of those people don't even know how to access the recently used apps or the Notification Center or even know what it is?

You are pathetically straw manning—I said nothing of the kind. I didn't say what should happen, or how. I pointed out that we'd never accept a computer this locked down.

Engage with what I actually say.

A computer and a phone are different things with different populations using them for different reasons. Sure they intersect, but they are still different. It's well known what iOS is and if someone isn't willing to accept what it is they don't need to as they can go with something else like Android that fits them better. So who exactly is just putting down a lot of rhetoric and nothing else again?

I never understand the point in saying things like this. People are hoping that Apple makes changes in the way they do things. If people weren't "bitching" about a lack of features, Apple may never have included very useful features that were on Android/Blackberry. When I first made the move (iphone 4), I was PISSED that I couldn't have multiple signatures, as part of our work requirements was a specific signature. I could get into a lot of trouble if I sent personal emails using that signature, or sending work emails without the disclaimer. This put me in a terrible situation until they finally implemented multiple email signatures. Simply saying, "You know what apple is, go somewhere else" is NOT a solution. The solution is to discuss, in locations where apple employees frequent (like here), and hope the right people have enough pull to push it in future OS'.

They aren't going to open up iOS like a computer OS from people bitching. People have been bitching about that since the first iPhone has been released and they haven't done that as it's simply not at the foundation of what Apple treats and designs iOS like. So if you think that when it comes to a fundamental thing like that that bitching about it after close to a decade would still be something meaningful as far as accomplishing anything more than just venting and simply putting down rhetoric, then rather basic reality is being pretty blatantly ignored.

You clearly did NOT read and understand what mrmister was saying... He/she was point out how the solution from apple and even here on MR for every/any issue is 1) to do a clean install, 2) reload old data, 2a) if issue remains, do clean and do not load old data.

This is flawed because 1, something is ALWAYS lost (every time I have done this, at least 1 or 2 apps lose their data). He/she also point out that users would flip out, if this was the solution for every computer issue, even something small such as a system file being corrupted.

Maybe Apple needs to find a way to address this, even if they do not open it up to customers. A user should be able to go to the apple store, and have a genius restore the corrupted system file, without having to lose data or spend a considerable amount of time trying to get things back to how they used to be.

I have a new 6S and a Mini 2 - both install from iCloud backup and have no speed or stuttering or battery or other of these issues. The only "real" problem I have is that I can't stop game center from coming up - happening now on my MBP also on El Capitan.
I don't run any social media apps but I have read on other threads that facebook seems to be causing a bunch of problems for people.

i can't explain why my stuff is running great but I'm very happy with IOS 9.02

Every large company these days either has an internal department or hires a company to monitor social media sites to see what is being said about their company and products. I'm sure that some of what is said on these sites winds up on some company blotter somewhere. Just because it lands there doesn't mean there will be action on it. Take the notification light...In spite of the past "bitching" iphones still do not have a notification light. Maybe there will be a concept like that in a future iphone of some sort, but if there is one, apple will have determined it's a great feature to add across it's user base. Not because one person posted 1,000 times bemoaning the lack thereof.

Or you just wait it out until the next update. The question is, is your phone unusable? If not can you wait out till the next update? If your phone is not usuable, then wipe and reload. Rinse and repeat as often as necessary.

and THAT is the problem. You can't wait if you have a real problem. Then Apple or its designated genius pop out the "Reset as new". If you don't have the latest greatest iOS version you will when they are done with you.

btw: most people don't know better and just "blindly" follow the instructions given.

I started my idevice career with the ipad 2 as soon as it came out, what is that 2011 with IOS 4? I've been updating since and have never had an update render my phone unusable. I remember ios 5 and ios 6 where the absolute worst at the beginning (with many saying the final release of ios 6 was the pinnacle of apples development), yes worse than ios 7.

These devices will have problems and clearly the mandate to update to the latest and greatest and restore as needed when supporting the device hasn't changed in so many years. It's seems like a model that works for apple and most of it's customers.

I envy you. I have run the gauntlet from easy to only via iTunes for devices in my household. I'm batting about 50% with issues since my iPhone 3 days with both iPhones and iPads.

That simply isn't true. Since Apple provides no finder access or guidance to the user folder, the steps are almost always:

1)Update to latest OS.

2)Reinstall OS, with your backup.

Then if not fixed:

3)Reinstall OS, new user.

Everyone knows this—it's listed on Apple's site, and we've all experienced it.

Imagine this for a Mac. There's a faulty preference file in your ~/Library folder, but Apple's solution would be to update, then reinstall...and if that doesn't work, blank the drive with a fresh OS and then start over.

People would revolt, because it's idiotic. But our iOS devices live in the dark ages of troubleshooting, even though we are on the 9th revision of the OS.
You forgot option 2a) Reset all settings

I find that works between version updates. A good old clear out of settings fixes a lot of little bugs.

THANK YOU.

I feel like you have to be willfully obtuse to not understand what I'm talking about.

OK, add that, too—it's nice to have step 2a, but it's still pretty paltry compared to what we used to have.

I think part of what makes it galling is that it is OS X—I jailbreak, and because of that I've been able to fix problems that otherwise would have been unfixable.

It's unfortunate that I have more tools at my disposal than the Genius Bar.

I had more problems with iOS 8. I'm on 9.1 now. No problems to speak of or that bother me. Fast enough. Everything works. Not the smoothest UI, but definitely nothing to complain about.
