Curious to know if certain features of multitasking are available for iPhone 6+? I'm really interested in the picture in picture out feature and have been waiting forever for that.

That would be good to know. I doubt it though.

For the slide-in quick multitasking, there simply isn't enough screen space to make it worthwhile. For the side-by-side, there isn't enough RAM, which is why the feature is limited to devices with 2GB RAM (currently only the iPad Air 2). PIP may be possible, I don't know, but I don't think they'd bother if the rest of the multitasking is iPad-only.

iPhone 6 might get PIP and Side View, but I agree that Side View seems harder to make worthwhile on a small device like that, but who knows.

iPhone 6s+ probably will feature 2GB of RAM and side by side.

The whole "continuity" mantra they had going on even calling a set of features that was a bit misleading, still asynchronous feature launches in good old Cupertino.

They did say in the keynote "works on iPhone too" but I did not see anything but iPads on the slide.

I am a plus owner and I feel it should at least give slide over? I hate using an app and switching to WhatsApp to reply a message .. Slide will be quick and good .. AARRGGHH APPPLE

I don't want to sound like an a**hole but remember some months ago when some people complained that 1GB of RAM wasn't enough these days? Well... now you know why high-end Android phones/tablets have 2-4GB of RAM :p Real multitasking requires a lot of RAM to work properly.

It's a thing to keep an app in the backgroud, put it in "sleep mode", and reload it or flush it from memory when needed... but it's something else to run two or more apps, side-by-side, interact with these apps, allow these apps to do stuff in the background, etc.

Memory is cheap, there's never too much memory.

I'm sure that samsung phones can do Split-Screen Multitasking so why not the iPhone? Wait, this will be the big new feature of iOS 10? I hope they implement this for the + users. You have FaceTime video in a small window so video overlaid would work fine.

The new back feature makes stuff like this a lot easier. When you click the whatsapp notification, the app slides on top of what you're doing and you can click the "Back to [app you were in before] text at the top left and whatsapp slides away and you're back in the app you were in. It's really useful and makes switching between apps much easier and quicker

I'd say it's still a big possibly, if all of 9's multitasking features were only for the Air 2 I'd rule it out. The Plus is more than capable of handling slide over and PiP since the first Air has them. I'd say aspect ratio is a bigger issue than anything hardware related, the iPad 4:3 is simply better at handling these in either orientation, on the Plus it would have to be a landscape only feature.

I'm gonna have to watch the keynote again tomorrow because I don't remember seeing the iPhone mentioned in any of the multitasking/slide over conversation. Since iPad Air 1 is not getting picture in picture I doubt we'll see it on the 6Plus with both having 1GB RAM.

I dunno how wwdc works but can someone who is there now just grab an apple eng and ask ? If no, ask them WHY WHY. ONLY SLIDE VIEW. I am sure plus can support. Crap

The A7 iPads have every feature but split view, Apple lists it here.

U mean the 1 g ram thing .. Ok. I may not be trained but is slide over so memory consuming. Given that the foreground actually becomes darken ..

Slide over should on a technical level work fine since the A7 iPads can do it and have the same 1GB of memory. Split view is more demanding on RAM and CPU/GPU since it's running two full apps at once and the Air 2 has plenty of both.

Precisely. So why limit our iPhone 6 / plus. Aargghh

You are correct. I knew it was one of those two.
I've been thinking some more. How do you handle split view on iPhone 6+ with the keyboard out? I think the screen is too small for split view.

Not spilt. Just slide over am happy. Come on Apple. Is there any way we can feedback effectively ?

I imagine because it requires more time and effort than just copy and pasting the work they've done on the iPad, the screen size and aspect ratio make it a unique challenge. The iPad in either orientation has enough room to display an app in slideover at the same width of a iPhone app in portrait making it very easy for devs to implement.

Yeah I think split view would just be too cramped for it to really be useful, slideover seems a lot more potentially useful for it since you don't have to worry about actively using both apps at once.

Perhaps when the phones get 2 GB of RAM.

And that alone will be a compelling reason to switch to the 6S.
From a marketing perspective it was very wise of them to keep 1GB of RAM on iPhone 6+

As an iPhone 6 user I'd like to have PiP but I don't think the screen is big enough for Split View or Slide Over. Even the 6+ is not big enough for Slide Over since the sliding app takes 1/3 of the screen, maybe Split View could work on that phone

PIP would be sick on the 6+. I already love the similar feature that Facebook implemented.

What's the feature that Facebook implemented?

When a video is playing, you can press a new button they have in the top left corner which shrinks the video so you can continue browsing while watching (as seen in my attached image in previous post). So similar to YouTube too

Interesting. Must be one of those things they are testing with some subset of users as I haven't come across that so far (and just checked it out too). Hopefully it'll get released to everyone.
