Interesting. Must be one of those things they are testing with some subset of users as I haven't come across that so far (and just checked it out too). Hopefully it'll get released to everyone.

It may be an iPhone 6+ only feature as well, as that is the device I am using. I'll check my fiancé's iPhone 6 tonight.

I don't think the split view makes any sense in the way they currently have it formatted. they would need to alter it similar to how android does it with a top and bottom screen not a side by side when using in portrait mode

I think slide over would work fine on the Plus 5.5" screen (sliding in from the side in portrait mode just like the iPad). They could use the iPhone 5s version of the app for the slide over app, which would leave a good 1/4 of the Plus app visible, albeit dimmed. Landscape mode might work too but that keyboard would take up so much of the screen when activated.

The 'go back' feature is good but it's not as useful as slide over. What's better about slide over is that it makes going back and forth between two apps over and over super easy and fast (while keeping some visual context of the first app). 'Go back' seems to be more of a one way thing (with no visual context).

I think PiP on the Plus should just be a split screen video that takes up the top 1/3 of the screen in portrait mode, leaving the bottom 2/3 to browse, take notes, play games, etc.

Split View, Slide Over and PiP are announced for just iPad so far. PiP and Slide Over could make some sense, but Split View would only be worthy only in 5.5" landscape mode.

Slide Over is more like an always available utility tray, while Deep Linking is a consistent way to get back to the originated app the current content is from. They are for different contexts (navigation vs action).

Samsung's Galaxy Note II was the first to adopt split screen multitasking on a 5.5" screen with 2GB of RAM. I mention Samsung's Note II because it was the first smartphone that had adopted spit screen. I also mention that Samsung also was able to implement it on their 4.0" Galaxy S3. If Samsung could implement it in 2012, Apple can implement it in 2015.

PIP and split view would be nice, especially in landscape. PIP could be nice on either orientation.

Apple could implement anything, but do they really want to is the question. they may be worried about the battery life and performance hit that split screening has on a phone. or they just don't believe it's worth putting all that time and resources into developing split screen. I have tried a couple of split screen tweaks on Cydia before, so I know for certain I wouldn't use it on my Plus just because I prefer being able to use the whole screen at all times. But I know others would like the feature. I think the best chance we have at seeing it implemented is when the 6 Plus gets 2 gigs of ram.

Split screen is already existing on iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan. While the iPad Air 2 is significantly larger with a larger battery and display, it is able to perform two apps side by side landscape and portrait. Unfortunately since the current iPhone 6 & 6 Plus have 1GB of RAM, performance issues comes into play. Having split screen functionality on 2 of the 3 major profit margin products, point to the direction of the iPhone (2015 editions) having split screen with the expected 2GB of RAM in September 2015. Battery life is a non issue as the iPhone (2015 editions) are as expected to have larger battery mAh capacities then the previous models. Statistically the iPhone 6 has an 1,810 mAh while the iPhone 6 Plus has 2,915 mAh. With the 5.5" iPhone (2015 edition) possibly reaching the 3,000+ mAh territory and the 4.7" iPhone (2015 edition) reaching the 2,000+ mAh territory again battery life is non issue. The advantage Apple holds over all other smartphones is that both hardware and software is perfectly optimized. Even though the Galaxy Note 4 has a Quad-Core 2.7 Ghz processor with 3GB of RAM with insane multitasking, battery life is abysmal and is not perfectly optimized with the hardware.
