Do you think we are going to see iOS 9 this year or are we going to see continues iOS 8 updates?

I think this year Apple won't have any new features and if they did it would be one or two small features. That would make this year a bug fixer year, which wouldn't need a large iOS release to being with. The reason I don't think we will see iOS 9 this year all has to do with iOS 8.3 is now in beta. Because of this I just don't see iOS 9 happening this year especially if they were to announce it in June at WWDC. Also it's rumored that iOS 8.4 is being worked on at Apple. I think that really puts the nail in the coffin for seeing an iOS 9 this year.

Even if iOS 9 is a glorified (and much needed) iOS 8.4 in disguise, it will be called iOS 9 just to keep the hype.

They have never released an iPhone without a major new version, I don't expect that to change until at least iOS 10. Also, you do realize that the same sources that show 8.4 is in testing also show version 9.0 right?

Apple hasn't really done performance fixes with iOS 8, my guess is that it's being saved for 9.

IMO no iOS 9 this year is very unlikely.

It's also only February, Apple released 7.1 versions from March - June.

I think I would rather have an iOS 9 bug fixer than an iOS 8.4 bug fixer. If iOS 8.4 was a bug fixer that means that iOS 9 would become a feature update and it would trash everything 8.4 did much like how iOS 8 trashed everything 7.1 did. If they started fresh as an iOS 9 bug fixer and added upon that, it would be far better because they would try to even further improve stability with that.

Besides, if we are thinking an iOS 9 is being announced in June and released in September, that means there would be a LOT more time to actually fix bugs and make under the hood optimizations/improvements, especially considering that iOS 9 is probably being worked on right now and has been for awhile. iOS 7.1 beta 1 was released in November and released in March. Sure, iOS 7.1 was pretty good but it still could've been a lot better. Too bad iOS 8 made it meaningless, though.

This sort of thing takes time, especially when things have gotten this bad. It's a nightmare to copy and paste in Safari at times. iPad is riddled with UI bugs/lag. UI bugs/lag occur on the newest iPhones as well. Battery indicator skips 30% and 60%. Third party keyboards are very problematic. The list goes on, and on, and remain just as simple. General polishing just has to happen, hopefully in iOS 9 and all the 9.x and 9.x.x versions following. There's no time for a dramatic bug fixer in iOS 8 if all the usual release schedules remain unchanged.

Yes I do realize this. I just find it kinda odd that Apple would go as far as iOS 8.4

So iOS 6 was considered a performance update which had a few new features and some notable design changes like the status bar and a few other things. I feel like Apple would throw in a few design changes to better match Yosemite and also throw in a few APIs for devs and a a whole lot of performance fixes. Then market the heck out of whats left. It seems about time for them to take it easy for a little bit once again.

There is no chance they won't release iOS9. I don't think they should release a new OSX though, just fix the bugs for now.

There's no chance they will not release iOS 9 and call it something else. It will be iOS 9, with mostly bug fixes and a few new features.

Snow Leopard was pretty much optimized Leopard and they still gave it a new name.

There's a reason people strongly believe it will be iOS 9 - because it will be.

Websites have already reported hits from iOS 9 on their websites coming from Cupertino. If that isn't proof enough..

After massive, sweeping changes and feature adds in iOS 7 & 8, we'll see a more "boring", behind-the-scenes iOS 9 this summer/fall.

It'll be most welcome.

Aside from just additional stability, all I'm really looking for at this point is the "add attachments to email replies" feature. Long overdue and, I'm assuming, overlooked.

Other than that, things like split screen multitasking and multi-user sign-ins don't really move the needle for me. But great if we see those as well.

If Apple doesn't add new features, they can update the design to be more like Yosemite by updating the icons with the same shadows and lighting that Yosemite icons have.

That would be a win-win since it would make iOS 9 look "worth it" and improve the goddamned design.

The iOS 7/8 icons make me think of crashing and bugs and even if they fixed every problem, they still would bring thoughts of bugginess for the rest of my life.

I actually did use iOS 7 and iOS 8 starting at their first betas, That may be a reason I feel this way.

Apple has released a new iOS version every year since the beginning with every new iPhone be it the new model or the S version.

I was also in the iOS 7 and 8 beta program as well.

Do you think Apple should NOT release new iOS 9 next fall until they first ironed out all buggy on iOS 8?
I asked because I believe new iOS 9 will always have too many bugs and they never fixed iOS 8 for someone who still have old iDevices.
I can't remember about Apple took so long to release Snow Leopard - I think that is because Steve Job is on the watch to make it sure it's bug free.

Snow Leopard was released two years after Leopard. That followed the two year trend set by Panther to Tiger, then again with Tiger to Leopard. Apple didn't delay in releasing Snow Leopard. The version that was delayed was Leopard, but that was because Apple needed more programmers to work on the then very new iOS.

iOS is probably simpler than OS X and shouldn't take as long to optimize. Also Apple said they were working on iOS 8 features before iOS 7 even came out, so maybe they've been working on 9 for a while.

We don't know what devices iOS 9 will work on, wait and see what happens.
