For those that have used iOS 9, is it TRULY faster and smoother than iOS 8? I supposed a better question would be, did you notice animation glitches and choppiness in 8 that you don't see in 9?

I have been generally unsatisfied with iPhone/iOS performance since iPhone 5/iOS 6. iOS 7 & 8 have had choppy animations and a handful of WTF moments. In fact, I bought a iPad Air 2 because the iPad Air was too choppy for me.

I currently have an iPhone 6 & iPad Air 2. I'm considering selling my 6 and getting a 6s, but that means upgrading my Air 2 to iOS 9. I also might just keep my 6 and go to iOS 9 or stay on 8.

On a scale of 1-10 for smoothness with 10 being very smooth and 1 being not smooth at all:

iOS 8.4.1: 10
iOS 9 beta 5: 8

I'm a little concerned with iOS 9 as we're nearing golden master and there are a lot of bugs and lag all over the place. It certainly puts my 6+ through the ringer

iOS 9 beta 5 and GM will likely be noticeably different. No need to worry. One is a beta and the other is production / public software.

Agreed. The latest beta is still very buggy on my 6+. Oddly enough, it's very good on my iPad Air 2. I wonder if Apple has devoted more resources to the iPad build this time around the same way they clearly favored the iPhone on the last two versions of iOS. Anyone who remembers what a disaster iOS 7.0 was on the iPad knows what I'm talking about. The iPad got the lion's share of the features this time around so it's not unreasonable to think the code is a bit more polished also.

I've never subscribed to that belief. Its not like they are reinventing the wheel, as if pre-release is crappy and magically the final is perfect...

Not saying it'll be magically perfect, but you have to figure it'll be noticeably different considering Apple specifically quoted better performance.

Betas are not public releases for a reason.

No need to worry? The last couple of years the software has been far from perfect. But this is a whole new kind of far from perfect.

If I had to guess I'd say mature iOS 8 is gonna trump 9.0

Historically speaking this is usually if not almost always if not always the case.

Says the guy who's had all iPhones including 6 and 6+ except skipped 5s

iPhone 4s on iOS 8: 4/10

iPhone 4s on iOS 9 b5: 6/10

I find iOS 8.4.1 very fast and fluid on iPhone 6 and 5s

iOS 9 b5 isn't as sharp or as good but it's still pretty decent. Much better than the last few beta's for iOS 8 ran!

You can't compare a beta to a release version. Beta releases are built for debugging and collecting diagnostic information, which makes them inherently slower.

At the same time it's not far at all for many others.

Yawn every year someone says this; yet the final release never really differs from the last few beta versions. So stop spreading BS

It's been quite disappointing. Funny though, how a lot of people say it's usable or faster than before on 32-bit systems (non-metal), but anything A7 or higher which were supposed to see the biggest jumps anyway due to metal are worse. Maybe they are still ironing things out with metal and once it is truly finished, we will see the big improvements they promised us. I'm just going out on a whim, hopeful thinking. My iPad mini 2 was suffering a lot more than my friend's iPad 3 under iOS 9. Really sad.

Seems like most of the people reporting problems on iOS 9 beta are running it on iPhone 6+. Weird.

Running buttery smooth with very few and only minor glitches on both iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2.

Hm on the 6 Plus iOS 9 is somewhat mediocre. Probably to cripple the device and say it can't support the new animated wallpapers coming to the 6s and 6s Plus

The GM isn't going to improve that much. Honestly it never has in the past.
It'll be a month between beta 5 and the GM and there might still be things running in the background Apple don't disable until the GM. So, as I said, it's not fair.
