MacRumors' members have nothing but anecdotal evidence. Our own experience is all we can testify to, and ask for. It's not as if Apple will say "Look, I know that iOS 11 works far worse than iOS 10 on the 9.7 Pro, but just LOOK at the features!"
Indeed, some people don't really care and when you tell them: look at this iPhone 6s on iOS 9 I have it's far faster than yours on iOS 11! You compare them directly and they realize, but if you ask them they will say "No, it works just fine for me" because they don't really care about those details.

Understood. Just explaining in light humor the difference in experience between a techy person and one who is not.

Entering your passcode is giving permission to install the update, DO NOT enter your passcode if you don't want it to install. Being reminded does not require it. Install Later and Remind Me Later are different. These popups can be tricky.

They’re deliberately tricky in order to catch the majority of users who don’t want to update out. They’re not making it easy to avoid updates, quite the opposite.

A family member who had the 6s on iOS 9 I am using now, once was using it. I went to ask a question and immediately noticed the passcode screen with the very little "remind me later" below. I stopped her from updating it, but she had already typed four numbers. If I didn't go to ask her a question, I'd be probably using a 6s on iOS 11 now. When I asked, she said, "I don't know, this appeared and I thought the iPhone had locked or something, and I had to input my passcode."
They make the remind me later button so small, that if people are in a rush and not paying attention, added by the fact that they aren't technologically savvy, then updated devices overnight are the result.
