Never thought of that but you’re absolutely right. With all the money they have why wouldn’t they do what Apple does and pay some top notch programmers to take the best aspects of Apple and Android and create their own software that works great with their hardware.
It kinda exists already. They are called Chinese custom ROMs called MIUI (Xiaomi) and EMUI (Huawei).

MIUI doesn't have wakelocks. It's optimized to every kernel. It's the iOS of Android since 2010.

No offense but its silly for you to get angry about Siri when it has nothing to do with the OS, it's simply developers not implementing SiriKit.

If you want your favorite apps to use Siri, contact the developer.

What is even funnier is in his list of uses he listed "Skype messaging" which has Siri support.

I use Siri for a variety of 3rd party apps.

OP: Make sure Siri is enabled for your apps you want to work. Settings > Siri > Skype for example, and if it only has search functionality then send feedback to the dev.

My reasons are simple. I hate iTunes. I prefer a file manager. Having a microSD card via SD adapter on a Mac is also way faster to transfer media files than syncing to iTunes.

I'm technically myopic as I'm nearsighted. But in tech, I don't believe in Apple's philosophy. I have always felt this way since the iPod. I don't need a software to lock me down into their ecosystem and with more proprietary stuff they use.

Sorry, not seeing the humor. I'm trying to use Skype messaging, doesn't work. Siri settings on for "search and suggestions". Skype itself doesn't have any relevant settings that I can find. I would rather be wrong and use Skype than right and not, so if I'm missing some critical info to get it to work, please share. Lot of apps are listed under Siri, not exactly clear what the hell Siri does with those apps since I can't tell Siri to use them.

App developers are free to use Siri for ride booking (think Uber), messaging, Photo Search (find photos and videos in a particular app), payments (‘Send $100 to John with SquareCash’), VoIP Calling (e.g: Skype) and Workouts (for starting health and fitness activities) …

Maybe you should talk to developers?

I apologize my post was snarky.

I just use Siri with 3rd party apps and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.

A few apps I’ve used it for are Uber, WhatsApp, and PayPal.

Checking online and according to the Skype devs both Skype VOIP and messaging supposedly work with “send a message to (name) with Skype messaging”. Give it a Google because I don’t have a use for the app currently.

Regardless, if the dev puts in the effort they can make their app work if it meets the SiriKit criteria. While true their is “criteria” it’s rather broad and there so any app like a goofy game can’t conflict with useful functionality.

The inability to make third-party apps as your default ones is another example why iOS can be so restrictive.

like ... what apps not from Google? are they apps on your phone or connected to Google Assistant service on Google cloud?
I'm no android expert. I've only been on the fringes since I've never had one for my daily driver. I've read that the major apps like MS suite can connect with Google Assistant. I could be wrong since I don't have firsthand experience. Again, I'm happy to be wrong and be happily accept that no OS can do these things. In that case, it's not just a matter of negotiation or low prioritization or other ulterior motives, just simply technical limitations. Apple had a big announcement that Shazam would now work with Siri a couple years ago. Honestly, who cares? That's not an app I need Siri to activate on a regular basis. I need productivity and music apps to work. I don't care if a phone can do a neat trick like Shazam or emojis. I need it to work with regular, common 3rd party productivity apps. Not saying Google does since I disclosed I don't know for sure, but I expect Apple to understand the importance of this in it's "just works" mantra.

After I started this thread I started to note when Siri doesn't "just work". Since I pretty much only use it in my car, the most basic functions needed don't work, or don't work well enough to use. iMessage, Apple Music, and phone calls work great. Maps, Amazon Music, Skype messaging, Outlook emailing, don't work at all or so bad they are unusable (Maps). Maps search function is terrible. I even Siri'd a friends address, and it wasn't smart enough to find the name in my contacts. I might be hijacking my own thread here, but I'm wondering if people regularly use Siri with 3rd party programs. Some of Apple's apps aren't ready for primetime or there are better alternatives. I know it's blasphemy, but I just want **** to work. Siri is the original digital assistant, but it doesn't seem like it's ever been updated since iOS 7.

I would love anyone to show me the error of my ways. Maybe it's just ignorance on my part in not knowing how to set up my phone. That would be awesome. Happy to admit I'm an idiot if it makes my phone work better for me.
