Jesus isnt here but this is what apple is telling us:

Low Power Mode reduces or affects these features:
Email fetch
"Hey Siri"
Background app refresh
Automatic downloads
Some visual effects
Auto-Lock (defaults to 30 seconds)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205234

Only idiocy it is to trust anything apple says. So, how much more they hide from us that we should know?

How do you know what it is that you should know if you don’t know it? What should Apple be transparent on?

The reason I ask is that there are trade secrets in any industry (11 herbs and spices, anyone). As a consumer, how do you expect a company to balance transparency and competitive advantage?

I'm starting to think that there are lots of people out there using permanently the "Low Power Mode" as if they could run a super enabled phone AND, miraculously, get tons of extra energy in their batteries.

Let's not forget this little detail: low power mode exists for those situations when you absolutely need to save this little amount of juice your iPhone still have because you know you will need to make that important phone call later or because you will receive that vital SMS two hours later from now or something like that. It's a mode that is made to be turned on when you need to reduce the use of your phone to the strict minimum to preserve battery.

So... if you reduce the use of your phone to the strict minimum, how exactly the CPU power being slowed down by 50% will bother you?

Jeez...

Realistically the performance effects of it are not really noticeable aside from perhaps doing something really resource intensive like some large game with heavy graphics or something like that.

In Low power Mode? Nothing. It is just that.

You can have ”low power mode” and accomplish it by differend ways: the most power consuming part is the screen - reducing refreshing and brightness helps alot. Then saving battery is turn of ”hey siri”, animations, mail fetching and so on. ”Low power mode” isnt a synonym for reducing cpu.

As a user i want to know what it does if i use it. That is not a secret and it has zero effect to competitons - the secret is the code how they do it.

The difference between low-power mode in iOS 10 and 11 is noticeable. It's not like the battery degraded suddenly within one week after installing iOS11. I used low-power mode on iOS10 and it was smooth during normal usage (no graphics intensive games) that you didn't even realize it was on, but iOS 11 is very different experience at least so far.

Maybe you shouldn't buy Apple products if you're that suspicious of them.

on my x i can play intensive 3d graphic game like bullet force with low power mode on and its great no lagging or dropping framerates and i think it on par with my 7+ with low power mode off

To put his into context, it’s about the same performance as an iPhone 6S.

Why you’d leave it in battery save mode for extended periods, I don’t know.

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/search?utf8=✓&q=Apple+A9

To extend the battery.

You can get a 50% increase to battery life by leaving your device in “low power mode” from 100% to discharge. That amounts to sometimes literally an extra day and a half, or 7-8 hours of extra actual usage. It’s one feature I’m thankful that we have.
[doublepost=1514741416][/doublepost]Also if you really want to get serious about battery, the single greatest tip I’ve ever received from this forum was to enable triple-clicking the home button to turn on “reduce white point”. You can turn the brightness down soooo much more than you normally can, but the phone is still easily legible and usable. I use it all the time and it extends the battery unlike anything you’ll ever use. Easily 2 days of battery life on an iPhone SE...I can only imagine what it’d do to the Plus model devices.

Call it smart power management by Apple or whatever you'd like. It's throttling nevertheless. And the end user can't do much about it.

No no no its not permanently. Read it again and learn something .

While Low Power Mode will help with how long the battery will last on a charge, it won't really do something like double (if not more) the standby and/or usage times.

Well, maybe that’s my reduce white point then? I really do use it almost always, even indoors. It isn’t the same as just turning down the brightness, so I’m assuming it requires less lighting on the display? There has to be some reason because I don’t do much different besides enable low power mode and I can easily get 48 hours standby and 12-16 hours of usage. (Though much of the usage is background streaming hours that are being tallied up).

Then what should I say for that?...

Just confirmed . Apple also slows down the phone when you are in battery save mode on iPhone X . So if you are on battery save mode all day until the charge reaches 80% at which point it turns off automatically, you are using half of iPhone performance

not only iphone 10 this occurs on all ios devices when on low power mode

Its freakin obvious that low power mode will reduce CPU power.
Its also pretty incredible that am able to play Real Racing 3 totally stutter free in low power mode on the X and still switch between couple of apps!

Then I feel sorry for you losing your next job because your iPhone failing to last long enough to respond to a critical phone call, all due to “unthrottled” device with a degraded battery. (A made up story/scenario, so don’t take it seriously)

Back to topic, what Apple did wrong is being more transparent about this throttle, not “throttling the device”.

Hmmmmmm

iPhone 6S over 2 years old. 20% battery wear. Lol...

That makes perfect sense.

EDIT: I'm sure that has something to do with checking it while it was charging. I can't even replicate it, however even off the charger CPU isn't dropping but that could be because I'm at 97%.

Regardless I thought it was common knowledge the CPU slowed down while in low power mode. I can tell a difference in CPU intensive task like ARkit apps.

Seems like the cpu throttling code in ios is super buggy. With so many bugs in other parts of iOS, it is foolish to think the cpu throttling code is bug free.
