Thanks for the heads up. Downloading GDR2 now
You're welcome. I downloaded it on my 8X yesterday. The 928 got it last week I believe.
Thanks for the heads up. Downloading GDR2 now
The exclusive Nokia apps on the Lumia series make the WP 8 experience so much better.Sold my iphone 4s and received new htc x8 today (not a fan of heavy lumia). Some initial thoughts:
1. Unfortunate lack of good universal cloud solution like icloud that works great with macs.
2. UX could have been better if icons in apps had text below them **by default**. Its hard to guess whats every icon is for.
3. Windows phone syncer needs to be running every time you want to sync (itunes lauches automatically) and its not as polished as itunes. For example, I had some non-english songs, which syncer converted to songs with unreadable names.
4. Time for charging the phone is extremely long. Its like two hours for from 5 to 25%.
5. It sits in hand not as good as iphone (4 / 5) even though I thought otherwise when used it first.
6. Multitasking sucks. For switching song, you need to press home, then go to music app, then switch music, then press home, then go to your app (and its state wont save)
I went full circle, had a iPhone 4s was bored of how the OS looked. So, I switched to the Lumia 920(didn't really like their app selection) so went with a LG Optimus G (phone was laggy and screened turned yellow around the edge due to being too hot) switch back to an iPhone 5(iOS7) like it but had the same feeling when I had the iPhone 4s. I'm thinking to get the Lumia 1020 (I really like the camera on it, but not sure if I'm willing to go back to the slim app selection)
didn’t tried it yet, but skydrive isn’t as universal as icloud.
I meant something that will sync reminders, notes etc.
The main thing is the app gap, which is resolving itself
Other than that, the fact Nokia owns the WP8 market but they fragment their handsets by making them carrier exclusives. If you're on VZW and want a 1020, for example, you're assed out
Also, if you're on VZW and using WP8, VZW took away the ability to group text late last year for some unexplained reason. They suck
Whatever that means in an environment based on apps and cloud services, Windows 8 might not be the wise choice:

There is your issue. I find there is not enough power coming from my iMac even to charge these phones at any appreciable rate. I have yet to try it with USB 3.0 though. My Lumia 2920 charges from dead to full in just under two hours plugged in and, interestingly, slightly less than that when on the wireless charging pad.
That said, my Iphones never charged very fast plugged into a computer either, so speed while charging in this manner isn't a very good benchmark at all IMO.
i think the worst thing about wp8 is the nokia exclusive apps. I have a HTC 8x that i think is much nicer hardware wise than nokias, but i am regretting buying it because of the nokia exclusive apps like flipboard, fifa 13, and so on. When i got my phone, the exclusive apps were all 1st party like nokia drive and others, but now some of the most useful and best selling apps on other app stores are exclusive to nokia. So its really iOS, Android or Nokia. Any other wp8 manufacturer and your kicking yourself in the teeth
I feel the same about the Nokia apps, but I give Nokia credit, they are putting lots of work into the platform. I have an 8X, but comparing the gdr2 update on my 8X to the same update plus the amber update really illustrates how dedicated Nokia is to setting themselves apart from the crowd in Windows phone.
I thank Nokia for bringing more developers to WP8, however its not doing Microsoft any favours by letting Nokia have these exclusives. If like me, you dont like the nokia design (and lots of people don't) but Microsoft are basically forcing you to get the Nokia otherwise you miss out on apps found on every other smartphone(BB10?).
I got a Lumia 822 when it launched but move to the 8X later. I am bothered more by the idea of the exclusive apps than the apps themselves. I don't miss any of the Nokia apps that I used on the 822. I think HTC could do something similar to Nokia with apps if they wanted to.
Do you mean the Nokia suite of Apps or the recently announced exclusives like Pulse(i Think) and Flipboard?
