Have you restored and then installed your backup onto the restored phone? If so its more than likely you are putting the issues back on the phone from your backup. Try restoring as a new phone and running it for a while and you'll probably find its fine. You claim its older phones but my 6S is fine as already mentioned.

If I restore as a new phone without restore from backup is there a way to load my photos, books, music library that’s not from iTunes that makes it a little less painful to setup as new.

Save the camera roll to iCloud. Or i think you can just pull them right off thr phone with USB. For music, use whatever software you used to sync the music in the first place (or take the free trial of Apple Music for iTunes match). Does Spotify offer a similar service? With Apple the songs that are not matched just get uploaded directly so they can be downloaded on whatever other device. Books? If they’re in your iBooks app - Save them off the phone then reimport them? Sync your iPhone to iTunes and I think they’re even just right inside a folder in the iTunes directory whether you have a PC or a mac.

only issue i seem to have is my airpods seem to cut out a bit when i am multitasking, like my phone can't handle playing music and doing something else at the same time anymore.

Well this article must be a lie too. Apple is perfect.

The Mail app is buggy as hell. Four versions of iOS 13, and they still haven’t fixed the bug where new mail is received yet not downloaded into the inbox without a manual refresh. That’s just one of the myriad Mail bugs, not withstanding the absurd, bizarre user interface changes they’ve made to it.

****ing right. Today my 11PM on 13.1.3 has started not delivering corporate (Exchange) emails. Not failing to give notifications (already didn't), not sometimes now downloading until the Mail app was manually refreshed or opened (already didn't, sometimes), but just plain not downloading emails at all. I missed a couple of very important time-sensitive emails. I'm ****ing done with this ****ing piece off ****. I'm off to BestBuy tomorrow to find a new-in-box XS Max that has a later version of 12 on it. The other bugs were very inconvenient, but *never* delivering emails is completely unthinkable/unforgivable.

I don’t think they are signing 12 anymore. He’s stuck.

Serious?

Restore haha , I did it twice and there is no change. Anyway, I don't think I should be attacked because I say what I think, there are other people who don't like this version and see the bugs but aren't blinded by Apple fans like most here. I love Apple, but every year it gets worse and worse
restoring doesn't help, you just get back whatever settings which might've conflicted from the previous OS back! So basically, you did NOTHING. Set it up as new and you won't have a single issue. I have none on iOS 13.1.3, everything syncs perfectly and instantly from Photos to Notes to Mail and iCloud Storage and the battery life is stellar.

This is not only on iOS, even on Android phones major OS upgrades never go smoothly.

Wrong.

After having major issues restoring from iCloud backup, I set my iPhone 11 up as new and still had major issues with Mail. Just as the post above, nothing was even delivered. Hours without an email notification and then I would open the mail app and dozens of emails would arrive.

Strange why we have different experiences, on both my MacBook Pro 15 (2019 model) and iPhone 11 Pro everything is syncing perfectly and instantly.

I did have so many issues prior to the supplemental update on Catalina and on iOS 13.1.2 but after both were updated, everything worked.

It’s pretty pathetic when one has to go to great lengths and spend a lot of money for a new phone but that aside you are just giving more money to a company that has completely screwed you!

Thanks - I knew that 12 was no longer signed. Was thinking about whether I’d go back to a pre-FaceID phone. :)

Fair enough - but Android is a cesspool. BTDT, not going back.

iOS 13 and Catalina is a disaster! iOS 13 ****ed my Xs max , my 11 pro my ipad and my MacBook 2017 ... and yeah , I always had apple products .. please don’t call me an apple fan boy ! This year i had only problems .. now I can say simply “ it doesn’t work anymore “ I invested a lot in apple ecosystem.. how can they release such a buggy software... everything is slow , stuttering , graphic glitches , network drops , WiFi drops ... and some of the futures don’t work .. what is happening with apple .. what is wrong ..

as someone who has updated nothing to Catalina, watchOS6, or iOS 13, that must feel like a full frontal assault to deal with headaches from every single device.

This year really seems plagued, and I can't say I didn't see it coming at some point. The QC has been pretty bad in recent years, enough that iOS 12's 'core feature' was smoothing things out like a Snow release (though 11.3 has been fine on my Pro after two years)

What a mess it sounds like

Some design decisions sound outright baffling, too:
