The iPad is thinner, lighter, lasts longer on a charge, and has WAY more apps designed for touch input than a Surface, but if I had to only pick one device, I'm not sure what I'd pick.

I can and do use my iPad for almost everything I need a laptop for, but giving up my laptop and only having an iPad would make me anxious. However, I'd much rather use an iPad than a Windows tablet for my basic needs.

Fortunately, since I'm not in that situation, I will continue using an iPad as my main device, and having a MacBook Pro as a safety net.

Of course it's going to have more apps because it's been around longer and not many people realize that Windows offers a better platform with x86 computing. And of course it will last longer because it is using software that is light and child's play relatively speaking.

What's better about x86? That fact that it allows legacy desktop apps to run on it?

I like how you say not many people realize Windows offers a better platform, as if Windows is some niche OS that a lot of people don't know about and isn't on most people's computers.

My iPad with "child's play" software does everything I would need a computer for, so why would I want a Windows tablet that doesn't do more than I need but offers significantly less battery life?

I would say SE and iPad. I just changed from an iPhone 6 to an SE and love it - the smaller form factor and one handed usage is great. I use an iPhone SE/iPad Air 2/MBP 13" combo, but tbh may actually be able to go without the MBP.

I'd take the SE and iPad Mini in a heartbeat over the 6/6s Plus. But again, that's just me (I have the 6/6s and iPad Mini 2 combo presently). The OP needs to decide for his/herself what works best for them.

You're not helping by trying to be a know it all. If the topic starter doesn't want it to become an argument, I suggest you drop it.
If you were a slug, you'd be dead with how salty you are. OP doesn't want it to become a flame war, so don't start one.

I love my mini 4. It's especially useful for reading PDFs, something I couldn't do comfortably on a phone. I currently have an iPhone 6s, but will consider an SE when it's time to upgrade. Everything that benefits from a larger screen I do on my iPad mini anyway.

A month ago I was a 6+ owner with an iPad Mini 2. I upgraded to the 6s+ and the iPad Mini 4. I use both all the time throughout the day. I love the iPad because it has insane battery life. I read on it, I play games on it, I actually talk on it when I can, and I take pics with it now that it has an 8mp shooter. I try to do everything on my iPad, and when I can't, I've got an awesome large screen phone with a big battery.

Originally I sold my iPad Mini 2 with a resolve to not replace it and use my 6+ exclusively. That lasted a few weeks and I got an iPad Mini 4.

I have the air 2 and 6s and I think it's a great combo. Even if you have to hunt for a bargain one of each I think you'll be happy with that combo. Someday I'd like to get the iPad pro 9.7.

Honestly, I have to recommend iPhone 6S+. Since I got it I've barely used my iPad anymore. Somehow I just like to use my iPhone for everything over the iPad.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I have tried 6s plus and I wont definitely buy it, it would be pita using it everyday in the wild..

So, now I have to decide:
- iphone SE or iphone 6s - with this i will wait for wwdc ios 10 preview, if they wont introduce some epic 3d touch use cases, i will buy SE
- ipad mini 4 or ipad air 2 or ipad pro 9.7 and this one will be really tough:(

I considered the plus as well as a bridge. But for roughly the same price you get iPhone SE and iPad mini 4, and that's one of the main resins I got the combo.

I have an iPad mini 4 and SE. I use the iPad mini to read ebooks, watch YouTube videos or online videos. I use iPhone SE when I'm up and about shopping or running errands.

I think the iPhone 6s Plus is great, and I would definitely consider the plus phone in the future as my sole device. It's a great middle ground between SE and iPad I have a MacBook Air for when I need to edit videos or photos or study online.

Thx for all responses... first I bought Iphone SE, but returned it (had yellowish display)... and after few thoughts, bought iPhone 6s plus just after iPhone 7 was introduced (thx to that I bought 128 GB iP 6s Plus for very good price)...

I went from a 6S+ to an SE and Mini 4 combination and it's the best thing I ever did: Even though the 6S+ is a big phone, it's not got the iPad functionality (split screen for one) that you get with a Mini and I much prefer the small size of the SE for carrying around with me all day

I've given up trying to find a single device that does everything for me and have instead tried to go for multiple devices that cover every eventuality so I now have:

iPhone SE (small, carry with me all the time use)
iPad Mini 4 (take with me when I'm travelling light but need more functionality than a phone provides)
iPad Pro 12.9" (when I need more functionality but don't need a laptop)
rMB (my only portable mac now, but I also have a surface book)
iMac (At my desk working)

So you went from a single device costing around £700 to 5 devices costing nearly £5000. No wonder you're happy, you've got it all! :)
