Take it to the Apple store. I did that and they actually quoted the 2 years.

Oh that’s nice!
Did you buy the device @ Apple?
Since I bought it at a third party website I‘m afraid Apple will send me off to my seller...

I bought from a third party here in the UK but the Apple store did the initial diagnosis. They were going to swap it out until they realised it was bought from elsewhere. They then printed out a worksheet detailing the defect and stated it would need swapped out. I took this to the other store and they organised a replacement.

I got a replacement about 3 months ago .today I see this also have 2 white spots on the screen.

You’d think Apple could’ve figured out display issues like these by now as they’ve been going on for a long, long time. I had white spots (or similar) develop on one of my 17” MacBook Pros and got the panel replaced. Uneven backlighting and backlight bleed around the edges have also been very common complaints.

I’ve never had any of these issues on my iPhones, yet they can’t seem to manage the same quality and consistency at larger panel sizes. Why is that? The iPhone screen can withstand repeated, heavy pressing via 3D Touch, yet a screen you almost never touch isn’t as long-lasting?

I was in the market for a used 10.5” Pro but this is really putting me off.

My 10.5 have something similar, only visible on a white screen. It doesn't really bother me and I can't really do anything about it, its company issue.

I had this same issue and lots of screen bleeding. The Apple store replaced it for free with no questions haha. Some flaw with the LCD.

My 10.5 has the same exact white spot. The spot developed on my iPad about 2 months in, it was not dropped etc...If this was impact damage, how would you explain this spot being in the exact same location on everyone’s iPad? It’s a defect. I have yet to bring this to Apple because I did buy AppleCare+ and this iPad is still less than a year old. I should do this soon.

Discovered this exact issue today. I’ve never dropped my iPad and I don’t even use it outside of the house. I’m so angry right now. Like many of you, it’s just out of warranty.

Edit: also wanted to add that in addition to the glaring white spot, I am also seeing another large irregular size whitish blemish near the center right of the screen. It’s only noticeable on a all white screen. As the rest of you mentioned, you only see the spots on a white screen which is very odd. Still, it’s enough to bug the hell out of me. This is what you get from Apple for $700 now?

I also got the white spot on my iPad Pro 10.5" at the exact same spot. Gave it for exchange under Apple Care.

Awaiting the replacement device as replacement takes 4-5 business days in Mumbai, India.

:)An update. My iPad was replaced by apple. Happy with the new one

Same issue will most likely develop on your new iPad Pro as well. It’s a design problem just like flexgate that’s seen on MacBook Pro 2016 and later. I believe bright spots issue was one of the reasons for discontinuing 10.5 iPad Pro for Apple. And not surprisingly they fixed that design flow on iPad Air 3. Pretty annoying, yes. But this is Apple nowadays.

I suggest you selling that iPad Pro and buying an 11” one before bright spots start appearing.

Reading about the white spot problems on a iPad Pro 10.5 has me worried. In many ways it seems the best iPad - cost, features - for what I need. I just got my refurbished yesterday. I’m still am on a fence about keeping it because of this one important concern, everything else is great. Although ‘refurbished’ and direct from APPLE, it is new, sealed white box, and production showed it was made 2019 April, the display looks great now, I’m just not sure it will or not develop this screen problem.

Will/do all of these 10.5 have this problem? Would really hate to return it, the cellular models are few and far between as a cost saving version (compared to a new 11”) refurbished here in Japan. Any opinions, ideas, or just general thoughts on how many of these will develop this?

Yup. I have the white spot too on my ipad pro 10.5”. It appeared conveniently after my warranty has expired. The Genius Bar won’t replace it for me as the warranty has already expired. Sigh....

They replace iPads for the white spot issue in India? For free? If it is under warranty I mean. Which service center is this?

Definitely not in this case. My children are handled more extremely than my machines.

After using the handy search feature (who would have though, eh?), it’s a defect. It even has a name. Off to Apple we go!

Do you have any source for this? IMO the air 3 got the same case. Maybe the white spot is created by a swollen battery? o_O

Hi Donka, is it possible to share the report with me? Got the same case but I dont have any Apple store in there near and my 3rd party reseller wants to have a statement by apple that this is a known issue. You can find me on twitter under the same nick name if necessary.
Would be great :)

The report is item specific related to the serial number and they don't acknowledge it is a known issue, just that they confirm there is an issue with the device and there are no signs of missuse. They noted the device would need to be repaired. This information should be enough for a 3rd party to replace - Currys in the UK were happy to refund me the replacement cost and to keep the iPad so I could exchange it for a replacement with Apple if desired since the iPad can't be repaired.
This is a copy of the email i got from Apple Support butI assume you would need to get Apple to check it first and generate a similar work authorisation with your own serial number and case id...

Why would they replace for free OOW?

Only for 2 years? Only for products sold in UK/EU? Or how does it work?

So Apple support quoted me 2 years had I bought directly from them - they would have swapped it out right there and then. Because I bought from a 3rd party store - Currys - I had to go back to them so Apple prepared this work sheet detailing the issue and the result of their diagnostic tests.
Where I am in the UK, I am entitled to a free replacement for up to 5 years which has to be sought from the seller of the product:

https://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/

Just to clarify, EU law dictates the consumer should receive a minimum of a 2 year warranty but legislation in UK provides up to 5 years in Scotland and 6 in the rest of the UK. It is up to the consumer to prove the item was defective though which is where the Apple report comes into play.
