10 generation iPad and lesser generations are worthless now. Your better off with iPad Air with a m2 chip if anything at all.
They are not worthless. It all depends on the need of the person. They have been on sale as low as 300 I think.

Personally if one is looking at the 10th get iPad, I would suggest they look at the M1 Air, Walmart has or had it (depending if its on stock) for 399, you get an M chip, 8gb of ram, its laminate, you can use the apple pencil with wireless charging etc.

base iPad is not worthless. I think it is a great entry point iPads if you are not needing all the bells and whistles. I also think at its price point, it is great for kids / education....

Wonder if the base iPad will get a Magic Keyboard. Not sure why this isn’t an option.
it seems unlikely, instead they did give it that flip keyboard though which is also very useful and cheaper. Right now the MK cost almost as much as the base iPad, so it's not an ideal market or fit unfortunately.

Here's hoping for Apple A16 and 6 GB RAM.* A16 is being manufactured not only in Taiwan, but also in the US, so it seems that chip may be in use for a while.

*6 GB RAM by Apple's own requirements wouldn't support Apple Intelligence. Could the iPad 11th gen jump all the way to 8 GB RAM?

Because of these possibilities, and because 10th gen sales in Canada have kinda sucked, I'll be waiting for the 11th gen to replace my kid's iPad Air 2.

Yeah this one is a head scratcher to me. Right now the iPhone 15 & 15 Plus are the only products still sold using the A16. I imagine their sales are going to tank once the new SE comes out. Why bother starting to manufacture the A16 in the US if they don't really have any plans for it? I also can't really see them releasing any new iPads that don't support Apple Intelligence support, but perhaps we will se the A16 paired with 8 GB of RAM in the 11th gen iPad.

I suspect that’s why we have the iPhone Air rumours, it’ll be iPhone Air or whatever they call it and SE and Pro. If priced well the SE could certainly take a lot of sales.
I can see the A16 being in the iPad 11th gen.

Do you think they will release an entirely new product without Apple Intelligence support?

The recent chip update on the iPad mini 7 brought back the A17 Pro chip. A very capable SoC that supports Apple Intelligence while being relatively cheap to manufacture in 2025. Or maybe they have an excess of stock?

But if the iPad 11 is going to keep being the cheap option, then yeah, they will probably equip it with an A16 and no AI

I expect the 11th gen to have the bare minimum specs to run Apple Intelligence, the price to go back up to $449/€519 again, and the 10th gen to remain the ‘budget’ option at its current price.

(At least this is what I’m telling myself when I see very pleasant promo prices for the 10th gen…)

Yeah, that’s another possibility, although seeing that the iPad Mini 7 got the A17 Pro SoC, I wouldn’t expect the iPad 11 to receive a better SoC…

On the other hand, and having in mind the price increase you mention, maybe Apple could put an A18 chip because of their own supply chain predictions, something Tim Cook is quite good at. I say this, because maybe they are using the remaining stock of the A17 Pro chip (manufactured on the temporary, experimental N3B process) on a low volume device such as the iPad mini, and they don’t have enough A17 Pro for a high demand device such as the regular iPad 11, which I predict is going to be a great value.

I have an iPad 10, and it is fine for my use. That said; I am not sure I would buy a new Apple device that does not support Apple Intelligence. Right now it isn't a big deal, but I believe over the next few years AI will become a fundamental part of the OS and how we use our devices.

Anyway, if the iPad 11 does not support Apple Intelligence, I would pass and go for the Air.

I don't think most people would upgrade from an iPad 10 to an iPad 11 with the same form factor, AI support or not.

I agree. But, if I was planning to upgrade from say an iPad 9, I would probably want a device that supports Apple Intelligence…..even if I was a basic user because I believe AI is going to become more deeply embedded in the OS operations. Anyway, if iPad 11 doesn’t have a chipset that supports Apple Intelligence. I would pass on buying it.

It's the old future proofing argument. For me, it would depend upon price, and what is meant by AI support. If the iPad 11 had no ChatGPT support but supported AI-powered photo cleanup in the Photos app, I'd be perfectly fine with that, if the price was right.

As it is, I use no LLM-based AI features with my M4 Mac mini and M4 iPad Pro, and I don't use Siri either.

Yes, that’s what I’m thinking – A18. Not Pro, but good enough for AI with 8 GB RAM.

I thought that Apple no longer sells any devices that can’t run Apple Intelligence, but I just checked and even iPhone 14 is still available via the Apple website. So my generally reliable analysis ;) stands. I’d love to be proven wrong and get an M1 model for €359 though! (‘LOL’ – Tim Cook)
