Multi-tasking.
Front facing camera for iChat.
Flash support.
Hand-writing recognition.
USB connection for printing when wireless printer is not available. (This might be possible already with the 30 pin adapter. I am not sure.)

yeah, basically everything jobs has decreed apple users not deservingly get in this version 1!!

CHA-CHING, CHA-CHING!

you hear that??, it's jobs and schiller milking the cash cow hand in hand off the 1st gen beta testers... "it just works!" ;)

stylus and hand written recognition. imo this would have made the tablet a much easier sell. students and business people need something they can jot down ideas on. not type it out on an on screen keyboard or wait to dock it. hopefully TOC comes out with that courier concept. that is what the ipad should have been

You really should buy the Courier then, when/if it comes out. Apple is not the company for you. As long as Jobs is leading the way, Apple will NEVER come out with a stylus. Multi-touch is here to stay. Lots of other choices if you like the stylus so much. Start with the Treo. :)

1. USB

2. Flash playback

3. Runs OS X

4. Has at least 128 Gb hdd space.

5. More screen resolution.

6. Uses a computer processor.

I'll wait for...

I've been screwed too many times on 1st gen Apple products. I've basically paid to "beta test" the newest Apple device only to find the 2nd gen fixes the majority of the problems for far less money.

That being said, I love this idea but....

...i'll wait for:

1) Flash support within the browser (yes, flash sucks, but it's necessary today)

2) Real apps - not iPhone apps that have been up-rez'd. Wait 6 months - there will be plenty of iPad-tuned applications.

3) A front facing video cam/camera - come on... this is an obvious feature for the iPad - video conferencing (iChat), facial recognition, etc. I can't believe they left this out.

4) SD card slot. Apple has them on the iMacs. Give us one way to get things on/off and, give us a way to increase storage as it gets cheaper - SD is obvious. At the rate SSD prices are going down, don't lock us in to the tiny storage that is affordable today (64GB is puny for a media device). An SD slot could be used to expand storage as it becomes cheaper. Btw, the camera adapters are a JOKE.

5) Wireless synch. Let me synch over my wireless network. Better yet, let me synch over the internet. Really? A 32 pin iPod/iPhone tether? That's awful. The idea is that the iPad is wireless... give me a magsafe charger and that's it. See "future possibilities" below - get rid of the wires.

6) GPS. How is this missing? Like the front facing camera and an SD slot - I suspect cost/price impact. So many apps use location services... this cripples the device.

7) Lose the dock/keyboard accessory - the iPad supports bluetooth. Apple sells bluetooth keyboards. The camera accessory and the dock accessory are both so un-Apple-like - so is the cover - since when does Apple make accessories? I remember Palm Pilots having a similar keyboard dock - it was just lame. It feels like Apple is hedging that the on-screen keyboard wont work... let people buy a laptop if they want a real keyboard. Make a good enough synch system and nobody will need a keyboard.

Future possibilities:

1) Wireless displays - Put the iPad down near a larger display/computer monitor. Watch movies, use it as a desktop computer... Use a bluetooth keyboard with it at the same time...use the iPad as a giant trackpad/pointing device.

2) Induction charging - no wires... Palm Pre does it. So does my electric toothbrush. Wireless guys... come on, keep up Apple.

This thing has serious potential. I'll buy it when the potential is realized. I'm done beta testing for Apple.

Love to see some crazy multi touch apps like the Microsoft surface coffee table thing.

Also would love to have a pressure sensitive stylus for use with pro apps like Corel Painter, Adobe Photoshop, Alias Sketch Pad Pro, and more.

Touch based iLife

Pretty much a full computer that's OS is based on touch not keyboard and mouse.

My needs?

Full GPS on non-3G version
FULL web (including java and flash)
USB and video out
Write-on screen

And lastly.. OSX. Not the iphone OS.

Had it had he full blown OSX setup and write-on screen, I'd be spending the night in a tent ready to buy one.

I don't ask for much, just three things.

Flash
Wacom type stylus for drawing
Multitasking

Those three things and I would be 100% happy. As it is now, I will not buy.

One simple thing would make it useful for me...

multitasking.

I could care less about Flash on web pages (it's a memory hog! remember that!) or anything else. If you give me a 1 GHz processor I want to use the damn thing.

.

Good idea.

In combination with maps you could even use the iPad for hiking. Or, with a speech device, to find your way around in cities.

I must say I was very disappointed with what the iPad is now.

But maybe it'll grow into something usable.

I have a feeling 3rd party background processes will be around come OS 4.0

Nothing wrong with doing a wishlist now, after all, Apple are probably already working on the next gen device themselves or just about to, you have to keep ahead with technology :)

Forgot one - wireless sync. Again, this is something that could hopefully be added with OS 4.0 (which I don't think we'll see straight away - give it 6 months or so when it quietens down and they'll release it to leverage sales, possibly with a $10 charge)

Won't get, I'm afraid - it's a completely different processor, like in the PPC days, it's simply not capable of running Windows. Unless they decide to fit the next one with an Intel or AMD x86 or x64 chip, which doesn't seem too likely after they've gone to the trouble of designing their own.

Help me bathe, wash my dishes and car. Come on, the iPad is not even released for sale yet. This thread is way too premature.

@above, I heard that the apple bluetooth keyboard is compatible with the iPad on some website.

Here's my list:

1. Multi-tasking. I know Apple doesn't want to compromise performance and battery life for superior user experience, but it should be up to the user. Maybe have a limit, 5 apps? Sorta a compromise.

2. Wireless Sync. Someone mentioned it above. It's really troublesome to sync my iPhone currently especially when the updates of apps comes trickling in and when I add new music. It'll be great for wireless sync. It can of course be turned on and off, and probably a notification system would be good so users can confirm before updating apps. A MobileMe-esque interface can be used, with a cloud based system that always updates to the latest version no matter where you edit it, on the Mac, iPad, or iPhone.

3. Induction charging. It's cool. And it's just so perfect for a device like this.

4. Secondary Display. This is probably coming with iPad 1.0, but they should allow HD video to be played on a larger screen, local videos and YouTube. It'll be great to have certain apps run on the secondary display too.

5. More OS X-like. Not full OS X. OS X was not designed for tablet computing, and it'll be like Windows Tablet PC if they just made some minor adjustments, add handwriting recognition, and slap a new name on it. A compromise. It must combine the interface of the iPhone OS and the compatibility and freedom of OS X.

6. Handwriting Recognition. iPhone already does Chinese, why not? A capacitative stylus could be sold separate, more money for them.

7. Connection beyond the dock connector. USB ports, SD card slot, a way to transfer files to the iPad without a computer. There could be a central storage system like the Photo Library, where all the apps can access the files.

8. Flash or HTML 5. Either way, the ability to view flash videos on the iPad.

9. Options with more ram/faster processor, etc. Ability to configure your iPad to your specifications and needs like how you would configure a mac now.

10. front facing camera for iChat. I don't really see the need for a back facing camera.

one more thing? Lose the bezel. Or maybe add some kinda gesture area.

Overall, i'm quite happy with the iPad. I know some people are disappointed following all the hype with the device. I like that this is not some tablet PC device, which is basically a touch version of a normal computer. This OS is essentially what a tablet should be, something that is very touch-friendly, intuitive, and made for multi-touch.

For me to buy the device:

1. eInk. Don't ask me how, just get it on there with magic. Without eInk, I would rather have a kindle--reading books on an LCD would eventually destroy my eyes.

2. Multitask. Multitask would make this thing an accomplished netbook killer, and I'd feel a lot more comfortable taking the iPad out instead of my laptop.

For me to adore it:

1. Proper GPS. You can mount it to your car while on the go.

2. Cut down on the bezel. The only time the extra screen would really need to be used is when holding it in landscape mode and watching movies.

3. Forget USB 2.0--iPad 2.0 is from the future, so give me a combo lightpeak/USB 3.0 port!

1. Multitasking
2. Flash
3. USB
4. Stylus
5. Thinner bezel
6. Camera

I'd pay $100 more for all these.

No fugly bezel give back my precious real estate
E-ink for easy on the eyes book reading
No crappy speakers
Hand writing recognition
OSX
Flash
USB

A Pixel Qi dual-mode screen. These screens are as sharp as regular LCD screens, but have the ability to go to a passive mode that is as power-saving and easy on the eyes as e-ink.

- Multitasking. This is the dealbreaker for me. I agree that, with multitasking, the iPad will be a netbook-killer.
- 128 GB memory
- A way to enter media directly into the device, like a USB port and/or flash card reader. I want to be able to plug a flash USB key or compact flash card full of songs, movies, or document files, and be able to access it from the device and/or add it to the device's internal memory. I also want to be able to download pictures from my camera without having to carry around an ugly attachment.
