Hi. I know this is an old thread, but how is it on beta 5? Especially vs iOS 7?

In the latest beta for 4s, not as fast as iOS 7

But it's smoother and less laggy than iOS 8. Multitasker and going to the home screen are smooth and don't stutter like they did on iOS 8.

There are still some bugs and performance issues that apple needs to sort out. But it bodes well for iOS 9 on the platform when it's released.

Whats it like on the iPad 2? My observations from youtube is that every app will lag when its opened (it goes black and stays on the home screen for longer than iOS 8.. )

I do not have an iPad 2, so I can't answer your question directly, however I can confirm this is an issue in general (there is a noticeable app launch delay) on the 4s, and also on the 5/5c, and 5s. Seems to be a general iOS 9 beta issue. It could be related to how the beta is collecting diagnostic information, or it could be a bug. I'm not sure - I've been sending apple regular feedback.

Still, the animations are smoother and more responsive - it feels more "fluid" is the best way to put it. Its the most "fluid" the 4s has felt since iOS 7.1.2, to put in another way. Even now if I do a fresh restore to 8.4.1, it feels more laggy and stuttery; more skipped frames and incomplete or delayed animations vs iOS 9 b5/pb3. I do hope that Apple sorts out the app launch delay because that is annoying and one knock against iOS 9 beta right now.

If they can sort that out, along with the keyboard lag that hits the device (4s) randomly, it will be an improvement over iOS 8 I feel.

They already improved the multitask switcher (4s) with the latest build - it is much more fluid than it was in the previous beta and more responsive. Apple did reply to my feedback regarding certain issues that were fixed over the last few beta's so there is hope they are aware of the delay issue and will continue to work on performance.

Still some ironing out to be done on Apple's part, but I can say iOS 9 is looking promising for older devices.

I no longer am running these devices on iOS 9. Sorry :/

FWIW it was still better than iOS 7 during beta 2

I don't know what you mean by better but here's a comparison:

I was afraid that iOS7.1.2 was still faster then iOS9 beta. It seems still similar to response time as with iOS8. Especiall the App Store and the Settings app are still very slow. Also the camera is a bit slower in iOS9. My mom has my old iPhone 4s still running 7.1.2 because of the slugginesh videos and use of a iPhone 4s of a colleague running iOS8.4. I would love to upgrade the iPhone of my mom but this proves again that it wouldn't be good to do that in regards to response/speed.

After the start post i had hoped iOS9 was much quicker then iOS8 but that isn't the case i'm afraid.

I was asking for my mum too! I want to upgrade her to 8, and she's find some of the features useful, like Recently Deleted and Handoff. But I can't because I've seen my friends on iOS 8 and it's quite laggy, and iOS 9 Beta is definitely better than that. And it is still a beta, so who knows what it will be like come final release? It seems to just be opening apps from that video.

Thanks for the post / video - cool !

Performance seems pretty close to me and there are cool features in iOS9 like the contact updates - this is my favorite so far - I have about 4000 contacts and it is a pain to keep them updated iOS9 is doing this for me by searching every email I receive - it works!

Anyway the extras are worth the slight performance hit and the boot time is not a big concern for me - I don't restart my phone very often.

I'm trying iOS9 last public beta in my ipad mini 1G and the user experience is very bad, daily tasks like using messages or write an email are a pain. I don't expect all running perfectly but at least basic things is a must. We'll see in the final version but i don't think that it improve too much.
