Holding the ipad 2 feels like I'm holding a solid, premium piece of an electronics device. It's heavy, and you appreciate that it's so. It's dense---You feel as if the internal components lying underneath are situated from corner to corner.

The ipad Air is a different beast. Forget that it's noticeably lighter (I could instantly appreciate the difference when comparing the two), but it's that it's just MUCH thinner. And NARROWER (in portrait). When you hold it, you feel like you're holding an aluminum casing that is EMPTY. Like ... AIR. It feels as if under the screen is an empty space with no internal components. It's name is appropriate and accurate.

Whereas in the mini, despite it being lighter than the Air, is more dense...and feels like a smaller ipad2 in that regard, which sort of evens out the weight difference between the Air.

I must say, however, that the rMini is more comfortable to hold and use for prolonged periods due to its compact size. The Air is comfortable too, but due to it's bigger size, is a tad bit more unwieldy.
