I’m currently own a mini 4 and still holding up the urge to get the Air 3. Convince me to splurge.
I had an iPad Air 2 since 2015. I absolutely loved that iPad. I was really reluctant to get the Air 3 instead of an 11" Pro, but I am so happy with my choice to the get the Air 3. Its a huge upgrade, the the larger screen is nice and the price was nice too (Costco). I believe the Mini 4 is very similar to the Air 2, so its a well-worth it upgrade.

I’m waiting for the store to call me when the space gray Air 3 264+Cellular arrives.

The Mini 4 was slightly behind the Air 2 in terms of specs (A8 vs A8X.) Mini 4 to Air 3 is a 4 generation processor jump and you get the pencil 1 support and smart connector, but lose some pixels per inch.

Anyone else upgrade from a budget iPad or older to the air 3 and love it?
Upgraded from an iPad Air 1st gen. It was a huge leap for me. I love how thin and light it is. And the screen feels massive coming from a 9.7 inch.

That’s significantly more powerful and a better buy overall?

For this guys use case, I’d definitely say it’s worth the upgrade.

I think the point was that if this is the kind of guy who upgrades to the new shiny after a year, I don’t think he’ll have to worry too much about “future proofing”. Sure the Air 3 is better than the 2018 iPad, but the question isn’t should I buy A or B, it’s should I upgrade to B from A. If you want additional features NOW that’s one thing, but to say “I’ve only had device for 1 year, but I want to buy a new device so that I don’t have to buy a device sooner than I would have had to buy a new device if I didn’t buy this other new device” doesn’t really make sense. For the light use the OP described he could easily get many years out of it, at which point he could buy an Air 6 or something which will undoubtably be far superior to the Air 3.

I ended up getting it. I’m loving it. Haven’t used it for too long now, but this thing makes the 2018 iPad look and feel like garbage.

Cool. I’m glad you enjoy it. It is kind of annoying to see these “oh should I do X?” Threads where the person turns around and just does it a few hours later regardless of what people were saying. Haha. Pro tip: buy the Smart Keyboard. Best decision ever

I have a Bluetooth keyboard is it really that much better?
Yes. For me, the Smart Keyboard really is that much better. However, YMMV.

BTW, the Smart Keyboard has a key spacing of 18 mm for the 10.5" and 11" Pros, and that's considered a "full-sized" keyboard. For the 9.7" Pro it's annoying smaller. For the 12.9" Pros its's 19 mm, which is the same as on the Macs full "full-sized".
