Aren't you in Europe? I believe you guys have longer warranty than us here in the good ol' US of A. :p
I'm in Canada. AppleCare add-ons used to be 3 years total. I didn't realize AppleCare+ is now only 2 years.

With AppleCare you used to be able to buy it anytime in the first year, and then it would extend the regular warranty to 3 years, regardless of when you bought it.

With AppleCare+, now you have to buy it within the first 60 days, and then it extends the warranty and adds (partial) coverage for accidental damage, but only for two years from the date of AppleCare+ purchase.

I went air as well.

The longer support that is quite likely trumps everything else for me as I don’t buy these items every day and I like staying current

That was my main reasoning. Plus hopefully avoiding the potential bright spot issue. After having both devices side by side the Air and Pro were identical in my usage, apart from the speakers and camera. I put longevity and a better processor over those.

AppleCare+ seems like a smart move with any new or refurb iPad over $300 bucks. Especially the $5.99 a month option, just make sure you don’t ever let it lapse, or coverage is permanently terminated without the possibility of renewal if you ever miss a payment. I’ve never had this happen, but just a heads up for anyone considering this.

I expect rules vary from region to region.

In the US, AppleCare has always been just 1 year extra coverage for iOS devices for two years total coverage. Also, warranty is extended counting from the date of device purchase, not when you purchased AC/AC+ so if you bought AC/AC+ on Dec 2018 for a device purchased Oct 2018, you get 1 year of additional coverage from Oct 2019-Sep 2020.

I bought the 10.5 Pro. Quad speakers, Pro Motion, and 4GB of RAM were more important to me than the latest processor. The A10X still scored 4000 single, and 9500 multi in Geekbench... incredible for a tablet. That should be plenty to keep it relevant for the next 5 years. Not to mention the better GPU performance. Hard to think that Apple will drop support for this tablet much before the Air 3, since the specs are better in every way except for the CPU. Food for thought... my daughter is still using an original Air that is nearly 6 years old and it is still supported, I believe this Pro will last the same.

MicroCenter has these on clearance for $450 for the 64GB models. That’s a great price for what you are getting. That’s where I got mine and not regretting it for a second.

It’s the same in the UK. Two years from date of purchase regardless of when you buy it.

Maybe I’m just getting mixed up with the Macs.

No it’s not the easy choice. I decided on the Air. I also can’t see pro-motion. I had both iPads in my hands for the last 24 hours. I still went with the Air. Yes I saw the video before deciding, amongst many others.

I went into Apple yesterday and spent quite a bit of time with the Air. I also spent time with the 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch.

The Air seems to be the best fit for me. I don't need to spend out on the Pro as I won't get the full use of it.

I think it will definitely be the 256gb model I go for as I will easily fill up 64gb.

I just picked up an Air today. I kept going back and forth between the Air and Pro. For what I use it for, the Air suits me just fine. Its mostly going to be a media consumption device for me. Maybe a little bit of productivity.

Saving the $400 here in Canada on the Air sealed the deal for me.

Are you talking iPad Air 3 vs. iPad Pro 3rd gen?

I believe the main comparison here in this thread is between the iPad Air, or the iPad Pro 2nd gen. They cost almost the same, but each offer an advantage to each other.

The smaller sizes of the refurb 10.5" Pro are no longer available in Canada. After the first few days after the Air launched, the refurb 10.5" Pro in the 64 GB and 256 GB sizes disappeared, and I haven't seen them since. The only ones available are the 512 GB models.

I paid CAD$619 (US$465) for the 64 GB version of the 10.5" Pro, which incidentally is the exact same price as the Canadian edu 64 GB 10.5" Air.

Unfortunately, the sales at Best Buy Canada haven't been very good. They are basically the same price as the Apple Store for new ones (if there are any left), at CAD$729.99 (US$548). Staples has it for CAD$699.99 (US$525), but still not great. None of these wonderful sales like Best Buy USA, where the 256 GB model was only $549 IIRC.

Man that’s not good pricing. Well, if I lived in Canada then I think I’d be after something on the internet instead. I’ve seen the 512GB iPad Pro 2nd gen for around maybe $700 brand new. But, then again I guess there would be really slow shipping if it from the US? I’m not sure. In that case, a iPad Air locally make sense now.

i never understood the point of this kind of video. I think anyone can go to Apple website and pull the comparison chart. This types of video has nothing meanful and just completely boring to watch.

One can really summarize this:

iPad Air 3= iPad Pro 10.5-A10X+A12-1GB RAM-2 Speakers-Promotion Display-4K video recording- flash. This summarized iPad Air 3: The handdicaped iPad Pro 10.5 with a slightly better processor and less of everything else. Apple is the master of recycle all the old components and maintain its artificially high margin.

I’d rather go with refurbished iPad Pro 10.5 than buy into the iPad Air 3
