Let's see... My original iPad was purchased three days after launch in January 2010. I replaced it with the first-generation 12.9" iPad Pro in late 2015. Here it is nearly 2021 and I have no intentions of replacing/upgrading the iPad Pro. No need to replace the batteries in either of them, no other hardware failures. The biggest problem with the original iPad is that it couldn't be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1, which was released in May 2012. By 2015 getting new apps that were compatible with 5.1.1 was becoming a problem. However, the iPad Pro is still running the latest iPadOS and I expect will also run iPadOS 15 when it arrives... so no complaints there.

That estimate of 2 years could not have come from someone who uses iPads. I'm with the majority here - you can expect 4-5 years unless you're a very demanding person.
