For those planning to purchase the new iPad Air 4th generation - which iPad will you be upgrading from?

I’ll be upgrading from a 1st generation iPad Pro 12.9” 32GB (A9X).

I’m upgrading from an Air 3.

It’s somewhat out of character for me to upgrade to a device from the previous model, but I like the Pro inspired design, and now that I’m teaching online and using more iPad more than ever as an important device for work, I feel that I’m justified in upgrading to a better model. I was still on the fence about it though until they revealed that it has an A14. I had expected it to have an A13 at best.

I plan to upgrade to iPad Air 4th Gen from an 1st gen iPad Air 128GB (2014)... and that one I upgraded from original 1st gen iPad (2010).

Thinking also of getting rid of a few-years-old MBP 13" that I really only use for travel (remember TRAVEL?!?), especially now that the new Air and iPad Pros support USB-C and external drives

BTW, any news on actual availability date for the iPad Air 4th gen (beyond just "October")?

Once the iPhone 12 starts shipping the iPad Air 4 will be shipping, I guess. This is due to keeping the A14 performance under wraps.

Maybe, but if that’s the plan why did the even reveal it so early, especially given that they’re not even selling the 3rd gen Air in the meantime? Why leave a hole in their iPad lineup for a month or more? They could have just revealed the Air with the iPhone 12 if they planned to ship them together anyway.

iPad Pro 9.7 128gb to Air 64gb. I realized that 64gb on iPad is enough for me (and thanks to USB-C on the Air I can use external storage if I need). But I still hope the internal structure of the new Air is stronger than on current iPad Pro. My current 9.7 is also bend a little bit, but I really use it (without any case), throw it in the backpack, sometimes I woke up sleeping on it. The current iPad Pro would be already broken in half I think 😀

Too many devices at one event, I guess. So Apple split it up evenly. It's no use splitting up the iPad announcements over two events. And the first Apple silicon Macs might also be introduced in October. So with early announcement, Apple keeps the anticipation high.

1st-gen. iPad Pro, which was a fairly boring upgrade from my iPad Air 2. This one looks to be much closer to my perfect iPad.

I am going to do the same thing. Are you planning on trading in your old ipad pro to apple? sell craigslist or offerup?

I sure hope that the Sept/Oct event announcements were an even split. It feels like the September even was a bit short and lacked any true "spectacular" announcements. (iPad, Air, Watch, Fitness). There's still a lot more to go.

Downgrading from the iPad Pro! But also, i‘ve decided to pass up the iPad Air for the new iPad mini.

Edit: actually coming from a 2018 iPad Pro so technically I’d be upgrading.

Im probably trading in my iPad Pro 11 (2018) for one of the green ones. Love the color and I believe its a bit lighter. Wont miss giving up that tiny bit of real estate and I get the faster processor.

Actually benchmark scores for A12Z multi-core still edge out A14.

Gonna upgrade from an iPad Air 3rd gen.

but, what I’m gonna do is swap iPads with a family member, he’ll give me his old first gen air to trade in and he’ll get my 3rd gen air.

In my opinion that's a big downgrade, the screen is smaller, less bright, no 120 Hz Display anymore and the A12X in the 2018 iPad Pro is also faster than the A14 (neural engine of A14 might be a bit faster, but graphics and multi core of A12X is a lot higher). The speakers in the 2018 Pro should be also better.
I also prefer Face ID over Touch ID (especially with a keyboard), but that may be different for you.
Better keep your's and get a magic keyboard or swap the battery as soon as its necessary.
