But starting with 64GB of storage at the same starting price of $599...Really weird and compare to iPad Mini 6 with 4+64, it is double man:eek:

Guess Apple has big plan on iPadOS going forward, we will see

M1 in an iPad Air is pretty awesome. Thinking I'll pick up a used one once I can find one for like $500, pair with a touchpad keyboard, and it'll make a great travel tablet (for reading books) + work machine.

Would have been nice for them jump right to the M2 here for battery life though.

M2 definitely seems to be dragging a lot. I'm not sure if this is deliberately slow because Apple is ahead and they want to tell the complete M1 story, or if logistics are hurting them.

By the time the new Macbook Air or MBP comes out with the M2 it'll be nearly 2 years since the first M1 air came out!

My hope is they will be A16 based and not A15.
That said M2 is not going to make huge leaps for normal day users I think.

We’ll probably see Mac Pro at WWDC and then updates to Macbook Air and iPad Pro with M2 in the fall (and maybe the 24” iMac too)

i actually might look into this one as the 4gb of ram in mine that is the 10.5 pro is really losing loading quickly anymore

True but the following pro 11” will go Mini LED and go up in price with 100 USD. Which will make this Air a pretty nice machine

I'm looking forward to 2021 refurbs when that happens. Need to replace an iPad 6th gen that's gotten extra sluggish with iPadOS 15. User prefers FaceID and I'd prefer to get M1+8GB+128GB for longevity.

A15 is definitely disappointing looking to me for desktop/laptop use.

Don’t think the two years wait is that much of an issue? Most people don’t upgrade their laptops in that time frame anyway - I bet you’re looking at around 4-5 year cycles for upgrades on laptops (and even then I think I’m playing it down). So if you have an older MacBook, buy the M1 Air/Pro. If you have the M1, you’re pretty much set anyway?

M1 only comes in 8G and 16GB RAM configs so they had no choice but to offer 8GB. It would be nice to think that Apple is moving to 8GB base RAM because it has great plans for iPadOS but...... the mini introduced last year have 4GB and the base iPad has 3GB. Maybe, just maybe they'll have features in iPadOS 16 that are only available to the M1 chip.
There must be some reason that Apple choose the M1 chip over the A15 Bionic. Wonder which is cheaper? M1 chip from Nov 2020 or A15 chip from Sep 2021 ?

I don't need mini led or anything more than the M1. Costco has the 11 M1 iPad for $749 (128gb wifi) so I'm going to jump on it. Same exact price as 256 Air but with much better features

Am I correct that now Air 5 versus Pro 11 (3rd gen) is pretty much this?
  • Camera (front and back)
  • Slight difference in screen size (11 vs 10.9)
  • Face ID vs Touch ID
  • LiDAR
  • 4 speakers vs 2 speakers
  • Promotions vs none
