How INTERESTING . Why do you think so? Will the books and docs become that massive? I'd be really really grateful if you can break em' down and tell me what kind of things I'd put in my iPad as an accountant (honestly, I don't see any features that I'd use specifically as an accounting student other than taking notes and doing excels) :/

Nah, it has nothing to do with accounting. It has to do with the better safe than sorry in regards to storage. I do find your comment interesting about how you wished there was a 128gb option. I’m in that camp. I just purchased my new iPad Air yesterday. I’ve been on the iPad Air 2 for a solid 5+ years and it has served me well. I’ve been having battery issues for the last many months and just couldn’t take it anymore. It was a 64 Gb model as well and I’ve just been up against the edge due to photos and movies I like to keep downloaded on my device. 128 gb would have gotten me by but since that wasn’t an option I went with 256 GB.

They must be in high-resolution and great quality, right? I mean I'm no photographer but I like using my bro's Iphone 11 and they take a lot of memories even when only being used for taking mirror selfies :/ It's great you bought the 256 GB one for her :D
No, I don't think so. But I haven't really looked at those details. And given the other comment here, it doesn't necessarily seem that this is excessive - keeping in mind that this is an accumulation of photos over several years, not just over a short period of time.

I hope you are able to fit the 256 GB within your budget, I think you will not regret getting the greater capacity.

I do think you should consider the iPP at 128GB if you’re willing to go up to the 256 Air. Unfortunately I am upselling you but I imagine it’ll still be in your budget, and I think it’ll make more sense to get the Pro especially if you only need around 128GB of storage. With 64GB as your base, it’s a hassle to use and very frustrating. You’re going to be offloading applications and other important things often and you wouldn‘t want to rely on cloud storage and limit your functionality on what would otherwise be a great iPad. 128GB gives you ample space to leave the most necessary things on the device at all times. Beyond that storage point is where I think cloud or external SSD becomes useful. I don’t think you‘ll find the 256GB headroom as valuable and quite frankly the Air would become too expensive because you lose a lot of perks that you’d get with the iPP.

Go for a Pro and pair it with some kind of external storage, if you need it. At roughly the same cost, you’ll get more RAM, a better screen, better speakers, and much better microphones that’ll help you with video conferencing and other everyday benefits. You will have more freedom to fully utilize your device without the constraints of storage, and you will also be able to keep the nice features that the Pro gives you. :)

I would only recommend the Air for someone who is absolutely confident that they can live with 64GB.

You make some very good points. I have to admit, when I ordered the iPad Air, I did not seriously consider the iPad Pro at 128 GB, but it would only be $50 more (than the Air with 256 GB).

I suppose that I didn't consider the iPad Pro seriously because . . . I thought it would be quite a bit more (which it is, for 256 GB, but the 128 would likely be just fine for us), and it is an 'older' model whereas the Air is brand new, newer chip, but for our use it wouldn't really be noticeable or matter.

The Air does have new colors available, and the Rose Gold is what I ordered since my wife really loved it when we saw it at the Apple Store. We'd loose that option if we purchased an iPad Pro . . .

We haven't received our iPad Air yet, it is backordered, I'll have to think about this . . .

I got the Air in 256GB as well, so I know how you feel. Haha

Returned it yesterday for the Pro after heavily weighing my costs and trade-offs. Once you get the Air the excitement of a brand new device wears off and you start seeing things more objectively. The colors on the Air are beautiful, but that was pretty much the only benefit I saw. I knew after a week that I would regret not going for the Pro.

You can always buy additional USB C storage if you end up needing additional storage. I do some ooccassional video work for short videos. I also use it for zoom and writing with Word, editing of PDF docs, Ulysses for composing documents etc.
I think the Ipad Air 4 64GB version which I have is great. I did though buy a magic keyboard to use with it. it is probably my favourite apple device due to its portability and power.

Also a thing to consider is if you want to use external storage, you're going to have something dangling off your device a lot. And if you're using an app that eats a lot of battery, you're going to want to charge. And at that point you also need to consider buying a USB-C hub. Thats two more accessories to buy. So factor all of this in as well. I imagine for many people with 64GB base storage they'll either have to leave something plugged in all the time or constantly manage their storage availability.

It is definitely less convenient than just going for a comfortable 128GB, but if you can live with that, kudos!

64GB is reserved for my core functionalities (system OS, apps, important documents and other files). It gets eaten up very quickly. When you first start up your iPad and set it up and download a few apps, I'd say you already fill up 15-25GB of storage. You would already use half the storage within the first week of owning your iPad. Without heavy management and external storage it's going to fill up in no time.
