How's the performance on 8.1 with iPad Air? I originally updated to iOS 8.0 when it came out, but reverted back to iOS 7.1.2 quickly after having safari lag issues, multi-finger touch gestures not being recognized, overall UI slowness. Has it improved with iOS 8.1? Any feedback from Air owners (only seen ipad 2, 3, 4 threads so far).

Weird issues with mine. Half of page turns white as in the middle of a page. Just weird stuff

I am still holding out on the update as i can not go back to 7.1.2. I can say the 6 is working a lot better than it was on 8.0.2.

I just do not want to get stuck with a very sub-par safari experience on the iPad air with no way to go back.

8.1 has resolved the issues I had on my Air and my rMini with Gmail freezing (requiring a restart to work again), and occasional Safari glitches. So far no problems at all with 8.1 on either device.

8.1 is running awesome for me on my air. Best it's ever run actually. All my issues have been fixed and I had a fair few. Very happy.

Weird. I had that issue before (drove me nuts)-and 8.1 solved it for me.

Did anyone use to have random restarts with panic logs? I used to and it hasn't since a few hours. So anyone seeing improvement there?

Is the Spotlight UI still 'jerky' when you rotate the home screen...?

Yes it is. If you want a smooth Air you have to enable "reduce transparency".
But doing so will also give you a bug in the white keyboard (it will not indicate that you pressed a letter).

My Air screams with the latest OS. I think I just got lucky though with this particular tablet. It's always been fast, smooth, reliable and I've never had safari tab reload issues either. Pretty sure mine has 4 GB of RAM by mistake or something.

:D

Been great since 8.0. Better than with 7 a part from a family sharing bug. Strange that some are flawless some are bad. Maybe do a clean install?

4 finger swipe up gesture is still a slow lag fest. Sometimes takes a full second to even register. All the little bugs I noticed in 8.0 are still present. Overall smoothness is decent.

Music app: portrait mode still has the repeat button obnoxiously close to the scrolling song title. Lock screen controls are still smashed together with almost no space between play button and volume slider.

Photos app: pinching in and out of albums using two fingers still has the black screen flicker.

Safari: keyboard is still a lag fest due to all the transparency on the keyboard which they decided to turn on in 7.1 and 8.0. JUST TURN THE F------- TRANSPARENCY OFF ON THE KEYBOARD APPLE!!!! Damnit! There should not be any keyboard lag anywhere. I wish we just had that option. I love the transparent effect everywhere but it's ABSOLUETELY NOT NEEDED on the keyboard.

Wallpapers: I don't know where to begin. Apple still can't get setting wallpapers right on an iPad and broke was wasn't broken in 7.0.x. Now whenever you set any wallpaper the new bug is that it won't prview the parallax effect even though it's turned on. That's gonna greatly confuse people when they think it's off when indeed it's actually on.

You know , I was happy when Apple took the polish off the graphical elements in iOS but I didnt know that meant taking the polish off the way the damn system works.

This, 100x this

I'am not updating my Air.

Seems like Air's GPU is miserably underpowered for imaginary GPU effects added in iOS8

its sad that the device can run games like infinity blade 3 just fine with no lag but is having issues with stuttering with the iOS animations and keyboard.
