I am looking at a zagg rugged book designed for iPad air. Will it fit my 2017 iPad with some minor dremeling?
Check the cutouts, if there is a big cutout for the volume buttons and the mute switch it should work but if they’re covered you’ll need to use a knife or something.

The Targus Versatype 4 in 1 keyboard case for iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 9.7 fits the new iPad released last week perfectly. All cutouts are aligned perfectly including the camera. I purchased mine today and paired the two with no issues.

I like the functionality of this case, but how is the build quality? Reviews on Amazon suggested it was prone to breaking around the hinge.

I've finally been able to test this and have confirmed that iPad Air cases aren't fully compatible with the new 2017 iPad.

The volume buttons are shifted slightly and the camera as well.

Can you use it? Yes. My leather iPad Air Smart Case fits the 2017 iPad in a usable fashion, but changing the volume will be a bit weird. The camera hole being shifted slightly looks weird but doesn't seem to affect photos.

Have a look for yourself; I posted photos.

I just carefully enlarged the area and camera cutout with a drill and shape knife. Problem solved.
