If I were on a budget, I'd have to seriously consider base IP with 256gb storage over 64gb IP Air.
I think I wouldn’t. I don’t think I would go for the design that’s different than the Pro design. it depends on what you are using your iPad for

Not saying it's what I would do, but for someone whose budget is limited to a 64gb iPad Air. Anyway, looking at the screenshot showing 60 of 64gb used, that's not sustainable longterm, if you subscribe to the rule of thumb that SSD performance degrades once it drops below 20% available storage.

Personally I think if you need storage and use your iPad for productivity, then the base tier Pro is the way to go for the cost. The Air and base entry iPads are powerful enough for the general user. If you want the extra storage only, the entry level iPad range is the cheapest option and it’s a powerful enough iPad for most leisurely tasks.

I bought a 64GB Air purely to get an iPad that looked like the new form. Use wise, I could have bought the entry level like my wife has as I don’t do anything particularly demanding on it. My next iPad upgrade in 3 years or so will probably be the entry level to be honest.

I have just purchased an IPad 12.9 M1 (5th gen) and passed my IPad Air 4 to a family member as they were using an iPad 2. Great devices!!

When you break your iPad Pro's glass display then you will wish you bought a $329 iPad. ?

I'd peg the replacement cycle of iPads at 72 months if you want the latest version of iPadOS.

Would be awesome if their was a telco that would amortize the iPad for that long.

$4.57/month + data for 6 year contract

If the next M2 iPad Pro has Touch ID along with Face ID, I will purchase it. However, if this is not the case, I will seriously consider the Air lineup. Why? Because I use my iPad Pro at class/work (wearing mask, obviously), and each time I want to unlock my iPad I have to hide it from the sight of others to enter my passcode. It is tiresome. An iPad with Touch ID would be very handy for me.

However I require the best studio quality mics and the more RAM the better. So ideally I prefer the Pro lineup, but please Apple, add a Touch ID power button.

If it’s only you using the iPad, there is a trick to get Face ID to work with your mask. I have it working on my iPhone, just goggled the how to, involved half wearing your mask at certain angles as your setting up the Face ID for it

Nah, doesn’t work on iPad. At least, not on my iPad. I’ve tried it several times.

I did, but I'm not a good person to ask because I had a 2018 Pro when I tried the iPad Air 4. I immediately missed the 120Hz and slightly better resolution (yeah I noticed it). The speakers were noticeably different as well. So ..... If you've never used an iPad Pro 11 before? The Air 4 should do you perfectly. That said, if you can afford it, the Pro is worth it. Face ID alone makes using it with a mouse/keyboard nicer. 120Hz makes Apple Pencil feel more like pen and paper. The speakers watching anything is so much more of a pleasant experience.

Buy an Apple Watch - it unlocks iphones/iPads regardless of mask situation. The fact apple didn’t reintroduce Touch ID to the iPhone 13 lineup after a year of covid and masks makes me believe its very unlikely they will add it to any pro device.
