I've been thinking about it, the 1TB version that also comes with 6GB Ram is probably more future proof, i don't particularly like using that word but in this case it may be true. With Apple's arcade game service coming out later this year, full Photoshop and LumaFusion 2.0 on the way, these are all likely going to take advantage of the 6GB Ram.

My mother needs a new upgrade from my Air 2 which i gave her back in 2015 when i brought the first iPad Pro, i'm very tempted to give her my 2017 iPad Pro and buy this new one. At least it will last for a while, especially since Apple updated the design and gave it Face ID, so i don't see them adding anything to drastic this year or even next year.

Back in 2015, AFAIK there wasn’t really anything that could fully leverage 4 GB on an iDevice since before that, there were no 4 GB iDevices. The 6 GB model in 2018 gives the developers a new target to develop against and provides an indication of what the next gen iPads will be.

It kind of reminds me of the iPad Air 2 that came with 2GB even though the iPad mini 3 that came out at the same time and even the recently released and more expensive iPhones were still just 1 GB. After that, all iPads and iPhones were 2 GB (or more).

Storage wise i doubt i will fill a 1TB, but if i end up subscribing to the Apple arcade service later this year (i think it's coming around September) and the games are downloadable, i will probably end up using more storage. At the moment my 2017 iPad Pro is the 512GB and i have around 260GB free. Most the of storage i take up is on TV programs (i like to have them on the iPad rather than downloading before i go on a trip or something).

I also think the extra 2GB Ram will give room for the future, if i decide to invest in LumaFusion 2.0 that's probably going to be a Ram hog. Also Pixelmator Pro which i currently use on my 2017 iPad Pro, games, and future apps.

Why is this apple arcade gaming? Is this like shadowplay? Or remote streaming games from a Computer with a beefy video card?

Subscription service that provides downloadable games where Apple is funding game development (or at least part of it).

Thank the lord lol. I had no idea about this even happening. I’m getting burned out on our all of (2) quality console ported games. Maybe they will leverage the power of what these devices are capable of. Possibly some games with a campaign and nice graphics, and even cut scenes too.

Hmm, not sure if the games will feature the cutting edge graphics that you want.

As someone whose main gaming years was during PS1 and was addicted to Squaresoft RPGs, I’m looking forward to the Hironobu Sakaguchi one.

I’ve looked at the titles coming. They look good to me. Beyond a steel sky, Ocean horn II, hot lava game. And a few others. The graphics in Ocean Horn II look impressive.

I’m a graphics programmer, and my main job is to optimize graphics performance, and or make scenes look smooth and have a lot of fluidity. But mostly optimize demanding scenes to run at 30FPS+ for common hardware.

They can bring demanding graphics to the iPad Pro. It just takes to much time, and to much money to make something that looks overly incredible run properly on average hardware.

It's a game streaming service, one that will work on Mac's, iPads, Apple TV and iPhones. Personally i'm looking forward to seeing what it has to offer. Before signing up i want to know price and the games it will have.

Now that I have had some time to play in iPadOS 13, it seems to me that RAM usage will accelerate. IMO, iPadOS 13 is a game changer.

LumaFusion 2.0 is out too, and big apps like Photoshop are coming.

I cannot wait for lumafusion 2.0. I’ve held off on buying LumaFusion for a while now.
It turns out LumaFusion 2.0 is a free upgrade for LumaFusion 1.x owners. I didn't have to pay anything extra.

Impressive that you can simultaneously edit 6 4K video streams and 18 audio tracks simultaneously. That's overkill for me, but nonetheless, it's impressive.

So you don't think the iPad Pros won't be updated this year? I am not convinced they will release new ones either this year, but if they don't, I think the latest we will see them is 2020. 2021 seems too long, as they are on a 1-2 year release cycle:

2015-09: 12.9" 1st gen (A9X, 4 GB)
2016-03: 9.7" 1st gen (A9X, 2 GB) <-- I'm still surprised this didn't come with at least 3 GB RAM.
2017-06: 10.5" and 12.9" 2nd gen (A10X, 4 GB)
2018-10: 11" and 12.9" 3rd gen (A12X, 4-6 GB)

I figure my 4 GB in my 10.5" Pro will last me a while even if I start using LumaFusion and Affinity Photo more, since I won't be doing huge projects in them. However, for my next upgrade, I won't accept anything less than 6 GB. I agree that minimum 6 GB is likely by 2020, with 8 GB at the top tier as a new forward-thinking target for developers. I probably won't be ready to buy until 2022 or later though, for an 11" 128/256 GB Pro, also at 6 GB. An 8 GB minimum probably won't happen until 2024 or later.

Despite all this focus on RAM though, I think what would help me more than RAM is if they introduce proper external storage support.
My wife now wants my iPad Pro 10.5", since both our iPad Air 2s are now possessed by our kids. So, I'll likely be upgrading to the 11" at the next iPad Pro release. Here's hoping for A13X and 6 GB, along with 128 GB storage at the entry level, all by 9 months from now.
