I use FileBrowser Pro for file mgmt. on my iPads & iPhone - it's excellent. The same company makes an app that supports remote streaming from another device (e.g., PC or Mac), creation of playlists, etc. But it also supports importing music onto your device over WiFi for offline use and has a lot of other capabilities. I don't own it - it's $4.99 and I think I'll give it a try as a Music Library alternative.

https://www.stratospherix.com/products/musicstreamer/userguide.php

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/musicstreamer/id979888370

Edit: Got it, scanned in my library from my NAS consisting of over 2000 mp3's rather quickly. Copying locally for offline use works well, as does playlist creation. A nice option if you don't want to use iTunes and have a lot of owned mp3's.
but you are than not using the apple music app? I didnt try the app you are talking about, but I would assume Apple Music app is probbably better *since its apple…

I’m addressing the issue of needing iTunes for transfer to the Music app.
I see. Its a viable second option I guess, thanks for sharing.
For me personaly it doesnt really solve the problem, since I use Apple Music App for streaming. So it would be keeping music in two places, but than again, at the moment I have not inputed any of my mp3 files, and just use applemusic

Yeah, I have over 2000 of my own mp3's that I put in the Music library with iTunes but this is an option if you can't use iTunes. I don't do any streaming of music.

I have been putting all of my mp3’s in Dropbox (I’ve accumulated literally 1000’s over the years). I use Documents app on my phone/ipads to stream music from Dropbox. There’s an app called iCatcher you can use to pull music from dropbox to the icatcher app on your phone and send it to the apple watch (for playback without an internet connection). All ways I avoid itunes/apple music app!

I found something you can DEFINATLEY not do - on an iPad, and is obviously a needed thing.

You can definitely not write boot images of live Kali Linux installs to flash media using BalenaEtcher to fix your broken OpenCore EFI partition on you hackintosh Mac OS X Instalation.

So I will conclude. Ipad is not a computer. When they add this thou, I’ll revert back to saying its a perfect hacking device. Also need to add Kali in the iPad VM software..

Plenty computer systems come to mind that cannot do this though. That makes them less capable but still computers ;)

You come up with this? Well, here is one for free: connect any external storage to any iPad and tell me how much space is occupied and/or free on it… using for example Apple’s Files

Well I’ll play…the reason I can’t fully give up my MacBook is for video compression. Let’s say I *ahem* acquire a video from the internets, and I want to convert whatever weird format it’s in to a compressed mp4 file that I can play on my phone and won’t take up much space…no app I’m aware of that can do it. Also, I dislike iCloud for file storage since it can’t stream, so I dump all my files into Dropbox. The MacOS Dropbox utility is robust…the basic iOS/iPadOS apps can only do so much. So there’s my reasons for keeping my MacBook “computer” around; for all other purposes, I love my iPad pros. Like seriously, I LOVE them. More than a human should.

I do that with a 3rd party app but you're right, Files should support it.
Can you kindly tell me which app? Even Filebrowser doesn’t seem to offer this - my workaround is to create a folder in root and then put whatever in subfolders. FileBrowser easily informs on the size of a folder. To be clear - it’s just an minor annoyance.

I haven't tried it since using Handbrake on a Mac is so much better in so many ways, but I believe you could install iSH and then get the ffmpeg package. However, transcoding video in an x86 emulator probably isn't efficient. :)

System Status app from techet (paid version):

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/system-status-cpu-memory-battery-disk-monitor/id401457165

For attached external storage, it shows total capacity, % and total used & free.

Can I lure every just for a minute to read a few tweets by Andy Somerfield of Affinity over at Twitter? It deals with the new M1 Pro and Max, but gives some view on what iPads are actually able to… for quite some time:
We shipped Photo in 2015 - six years after the design phase - without GPU compute support :( A GPU which did all the things we needed simply didn’t exist. We wondered if we had backed the wrong horse. Happily, a short while later it did exist - but it was in an iPad !
Read&enjoy the full thread. ?

Haha well okay MrLucas, I throw in the towel, if an iPad can’t write boot images, it’s definitely not a computer ?

My smart watch can’t do it, my e-readers can’t, my game consoles can’t, my ebike’s computer can’t, my smartphones can’t, my Plex server can’t, the list goes on and on.

But sure, troll on.
