re: importing music
I'm using the default Music app and importing MP3 manually (via cable) with a free app I found, CopyTrans Manager. Seems to work better than iTunes for Windows...

It's still pain though.

Anyone know if there is there an iOS app for iPAD that would allow me to upload mp3 or other music files (downloaded from a band website) directly into Apple Music?

I have absolutely lost all of my open tabs on Safari on iPadOS, twice so far, and not understood why. It didn’t happen before 17.0 so there is probably just something I am doing with muscle memory.

I’m still on iPadOS 16, but I think it’s my fault for opening several Safari windows with normal and private tabs. Knowing the way iPadOS manages different instances of an app, next time I’ll stick to the same window. The problem is that I find it useful to have one tab in the monitor (for video stream for instance) and other tabs on my iPad screen. We’ll see how I manage that… probably using Safari tab groups even more.

However, at least on iPadOS 16, Safari is still buggy when you use it this way (some tabs on the monitor, some other tabs on the iPad). Sometimes, after a while working on the monitor tabs, the main/visible tab on the iPad starts to get black squares. Some other times, the video on the monitor pauses and it’s unable to reload, even reloading the same tab. I have to close the tab and open it again for the video to reload properly.

I’m wondering if all of this is the result of some type of memory constraint on the M2, but this chip has 8GB with a bigger bus of 100GB/s, so… I’m not sure if it’s a software problem or my M2 is not “good enough”.

I swear that if Apple releases a 12” MacBook, I’m probably never working with the iPad Pro this way. All of what I described above is so much smooth and intuitive on macOS…

I have around 15 tabs in a tab group. If I open safari and select the tab group from the left sidebar, all my tabs are there. Any tabs you had open which aren’t part of the tab group should be in what says 1 Tab on mine. The same kind of thing works on the Mac.

Check the sidebar.

Your example gave me an idea… I only use tab groups for specialized topics/websites, but I never considered creating a “general” tab to have my regular webs there, always in sync, and using that tab group as default. Not sure if this is convenient but maybe I should give it a try…

I just noticed that iOS 17 has fixed a few stage manager issues I have had in the past.
I'm using my ipad pro with a USB-C dock and a second screen, before I could never move the sound being played back to the iPad. As soon as the HDMI cable was attached it wanted to play all sounds on the screen.

Since I don't have any speakers on the screeen it was just annoying having sit there in silence or having to hook up an external soundsystem.

WIth 17.x I can now choose the iPads speakers while watching a movie on the big screen.

Good job Apple sorting that out :)

If Apple wants the iPad laptop experience to be exclusive. A keyboard case that allows you to swivel the iPad from portrait to landscape and vice versa, with the keyboard attached would be something I would pay good money for. Since there is no laptop out there that allows you to do this. And a lot of iPad users prefer to view certain sites in portrait over landscape.

Quick question, because I guess the answer is a simple NO.

Can I invoque the on-screen keyboard on an external display? It seems to only appear when I select a text input field on the iPad screen, but not on the external display.

Thank you.

Apple does not support touch on external displays from iPad, so why would want a software keyboard there?

For me to be able to type with my mouse, without the need of a keyboard.

But I’ve just used the screen mirrored and problem solved.

You’re probably thinking that typing on the virtual keyboard with the Magic Mouse is a pain. It is, indeed, but for typing a song or artist in the search field of Apple Music, it is more than enough.

Anyone else have terrrible lag on excel? I’m just doing our accounts which is basic spreadsheet with no formulas of outgoing payments with 800 lines on it. When I scroll up or down the text all disappears until it stops scrolling. It’s awful.

Any ideas?

I see the same on a local spreadsheet with 1800 lines, 4 columns, no formulas. M1 12.9 with Office365. Bottom line is that Office in the Apple ecosystem sucks. Funny how beautifully it runs on my Surface Pro ...

I’ve got the same iPad! Shame as I must admit with external monitor support I’ve been really enjoying the iPad again. This is a big negative although I suppose I can live with it while it’s rare I use excel personally.

It’s def not viable for a business or anyone who lives in spreadsheets

I see that happening on our HP work laptops too - running Windows. Not entirely sure why it does it - maybe syncing to MS Drive - so not sure it’s purely an iPad issue. I work a lot with the Finance Director so see it happen frequently.

Previously, I worked in banking a did a lot of VBA - so I knew Excel very well, went away from MS for about 8 years (to GSuite) now back and I much prefer GSuite - never, ever thought I would say that.

I noticed it now plays on iPad by default, but I don’t understand how to switch audio between screen and iPad

Does anyone know how to use an external display’s camera for Zoom? It works now for FaceTime but I have to use Zoom for work and it’s driving me crazy, not being able to use it…

First photo - press and hold on the sound card(circled in red). Second photo - click Control Other Speakers & TV's. Third Photo - A list of sound sources will be on the last page.

Don't have my iPad with me at the mo, but I think I swiped down to get the meny where you change brightness and volume and clicked on the volume bar where there is an icon (a pic of a computer if i remember correctly).
Could also be in the same meny where you find airplay mirroring.

I”ve tried to do some work with word and excel again and had them nicely side by side on my new studio display which i love and it was painful. The 2 windows just kept not working and they would keep freezing up and not allowing me to move or click onto them. It was a big mess So went back to old faithful 2014 iMac to do it in the end.

I’ve had enough now and I’m giving up with working as a replacement. To me its now a 12.9 inch iPhone which is good for web browsing, looking and editing at photos and thats it.
