Well, I just bought one at the local Best Buy near my work.
It was pretty painless...almost. I went on their site, clicked on the iPad 16GB wifi only model, put in my zip code, and it listed 2 stores with in-store availability. I called one, they confirmed they had it, and was able to do a same-day hold for me. I got there in 45 minutes, walked to the customer info kiosk, they had mine on a shelf with my name, and rang me up right there. They only downsided was they attempted to sell me a $370 3 year warrenty for the $500 iPad. I kindly declined, paid for the device and walked out with product in hand.
I just went on Apple's order page website where I had previously ordered my "yet-to-be-shipped" iPad, and painlessly cancelled my order. Hopefully the refund shows up on my credit card in the next few days.
I'm still at work, so haven't opened it yet, but its for my wife so I'll let her do the honors this evening. Thanks for all your help guys!
