re: the preson and "why the iPad is what it is that many people don't get"

This is a fallacy of those that are VERY pro-iPad. Why, if anyone has a dissenting opinion or criticism are they tagged as someone who doesn't "get it"

Actually, no it is not a fallacy. The guy explained pretty much exactly why Apple designed the iPad the way they did, in order for the students to understand the philosophy as it applies to software development. Whether you personally agree with the philosophy and choose to buy one is your business.

The reason I said it should be required reading is it answers the question that sooo many people have of "why doesn't the iPad do XX."

P.S. lighten up.

I'm very light. I'm ethereal.

The slides don't answer those questions - maybe the lecture does.

And I still disagree. People, like yourself, want to pigeon hole those that aren't 100 percent sold on the iPad being "magical" and whatnot as not getting it. I will tell you - you're wrong. You're still entitled to your opinion - as wrong as it is.

And it's wrong because it's a generalization. Some people might not get it. And I would be a lot of people that are buying it - don't get it - they just think it's cool or want the new shiny toy.

You shouldn't make assumptions and generalizations about people and things you don't know and certainly can't prove. Prove I don't get the iPad.

I don't understand why you are being so defensive. The guy explained the most likely reasoning behind Apple's design of the iPad, which I can tell you for a fact many people don't understand based on their posts in this forum. (And in fact Evan explains in his presentation that somewhat techie people like us who hang out on internet forums are unlikely to see it).

I didn't say anything about whether people had to agree with their design philosophy and choose to buy one. I don't know exactly what you personally think or why.

Actually I'm being "offensive" here and you're being defensive if you look at the semantics of the last discussion exchange. :)

We can agree to disagree on how "worthy" those slides (not lecture) are.

admanimal,

Sam and others like him continue to split hairs in these debates and harp on perceived issues with the iPad to which they take exception. it frankly baffles me why they continue to post here.

The reality is that they simply seem incapable of accepting the reality that there are plenty of people - I estimate several million in Year 1 - who are ecstatic about the iPad (or at least satisfied by it) and plan to buy it, knowing full well what it can and cannot do.

They insist on framing the debate around the validity of Apple's marketing terms (e.g. magical), straw men built around a given feature (e.g. zOMG no Flash!) and other silliness rather than simply accept that we like it, and intend to acquire it.

Further, they have proven to possess an ability to accept the fact that - gasp! - they cannot change our minds! Hilarious.

Ok - so YOU thought the slideshow was intelligent and of value? Seriously? I'm not splitting hairs. It seems you guys are the one on the attack. I'm not going to apologize for finding the slideshow boring and useless. That is not at all an indication of what I think of the iPad. Which I have said is a GREAT device - just not one I'm going to buy YET.

WOW - talk about straw man debating going on here. The subject was the slideshow. And it was useless in my opinion. And it's not a question of getting it or not getting it. The slideshow or the device.

I also never EVER said that the iPad wouldn't sell or wouldn't be a success.

I'm not trying to change YOUR mind - why would you try and change mine? I'm also not trying to belittle YOUR opinion - yet you, and others try to belittle anyone who doesn't agree with you.

Talk about silly and pathetic.

As for why I post here and some of the issues I've just "addressed" - it's clear that you have either selective memory or true reading comprehension issues that transcend anything I can help with by repeating myself.

You're truly helpless.

a) The debate in this thread had clearly shifted away from the presentation, at least b/t you and admanimal

b) You continue to do everything I outlined, to a tee. Thank you.

Thanks for proving my point. I had thought you and I were having decent conversation in other threads - using intelligent discussion points, etc. But this response is beneath you.

Since you didn't answer my question - I'll ask again. The slides presented - nothing else - did you find useful? Honestly? You're a smart guy - a bit overzealous at times - but who isn't - but really.. you found those slides important? Not any discussion here about them - not about what the "concept" around the slides were or intended for - but the ACTUAL slides.

You're welcome.
