iPad Disappointment / eBay or Return opened iPad 3g 64GB?

So I finally got my iPad 3g 64GB today, and I'm considering returning it. I had played with the wi-fi ipad in the store, but was pretty sure I wanted 3g. Now, however, I'm pretty sure I just want a 3g card for my Macbook Pro.

Once I got done playing a few games of Charadium and Angry Birds; watching some TV on Netflix; and looking at news apps; I've sort of realized that there's nothing I'm dying to do on this thing that I can't do on my iPhone. I think I've determined that for my purposes, something either fits in my pocket, and therefore goes everywhere with me, or it isn't an everyday portable item. I haven't felt that it's a more intimate user experience to use an iPad rather than a laptop around the house either.

My iPhone is small and convenient, so it's fine that it has limitations. With the larger iPad I want it to do more, and if it has 3G, I don't want it so hamstrung by AT&T (regardless of jailbreak 3g Tricker apps). And I'm thinking the iPad's going to seem even more superfluous when the iPhone 4g comes out.

I recognize that it's a nice machine, but I think that, for the time being, there is no interim device between the iPhone and MBP for me.

All this is a long introduction to say: do you think I'm better off selling it on eBay or eating the 10% restocking fee and returning it to Apple?

eat the restocking fee or craigslist it. Ebay and Gaypal are a pain if your not really into it. A chargeback from hell, could cost you everything.

You do have 14 days to return without paying a restock fee also. :hmm:

not quite. you have 14 days to return it and suffer a 10% restocking fee. the only way you won't get charged the restocking fee is if it's defective.
 
Hmmm. Where are all the fanboys railing on this guy because he doesnt like what they like. Must be too early.
 
Okay so... Bad Logic would say return it and eat restocking fees or not make any $$

Good logic would say craigslist it locally or eBay it to international buyer for profit since their launch is delayed until the end of the month and their preorder is still 9 days away. :p:p (Yes I've sold opened iPad for more than I've paid for)

I like the sound of that good logic :rolleyes: :p

Or if the product isn't opened or still in original packaging.
 
I've considered returning or selling mine too. For many of the same reasons as the OP. The ipad is fantastic. I'm just not sure I need it for the money I spent.

eBay scares me. Especially overseas. Wouldn't it be easy to get scammed?

Because he didn't provoke it - he rather use a MacBook Pro instead of an iPad - makes sense to me although I have both myself and I appreciate the ease & efficiency of using the iPad for a short task on the road or at home vice carrying around and/or firing up the laptop.

You bring up a good point--I think in this case the op's reasoning is pretty well thought out and they make sense to me--and most importantly, applies to his situation. I would probably be thinking the same thing myself if I had a laptop, but since I don't, I am thinking that the iPod would be a nice fit--for me.

I guess that is the one thing that does irritate me about some of the posts. They are written in a way that makes it seem like the op has the only logical answer and everyone else is stupid if you don't agree. But in this case, the op makes it perfectly clear that his decision is a personal one based on his situation.
 
Everyone knows eBayh is the place for bargains and that means tyhsat it is not sellers paradise. the prices there are crazyh cheap and there are only people with alot of cash anyway who have the will to sell on there,
Of cours e yoyu even have to pay to liskt youjr item on theikr site not counting the very little you will get for it from cheap bargain hunters, so i reccomend taking it back.
Waste of moneyh dont you think?
 
I purchased the iPad earlier today.

For me paying £615 will still be less than the cost in the UK. I'd rather buy an open box one so that I know it is all okay, rather than buying a sealed one and then finding it has issues.

For those of you that have the time/money, buy iPads and ship them over the pond and whatever you pay in dollars, you can get in pounds. The street value of the the 16GB wifi iPad is over £500 and the supply just can't meet the demand.

Oh, please. A lot of people get blasted from fanboy rage unprovoked. It is very surprising that it didn't happen in this thread. I've seen it plenty of times on these forums.
 
Ugh. I am so indecisive. The iPad is amazing. I'm just not sure it does what I need it to do. I kinda knew this going in but the impulse to buy still overwhelmed me. And there are other things I could use the money for.

I know if I return it, some App will come out that will make me miss it. Also, I don't really want to pay the restocking fee, that will be pretty hefty.

I am scared to sell on eBay, especially overseas.

Ugh. Don't know what to do.

craigslist it, more efficient, your stipulations (cash only), less spam from overseas
 
I am sorry but the iphone sucks after using the ipad. Most people that have the wifi and iphoe would agree that the iphone just does not cut it after having the ipad.
 
I woke up feeling similar. I was hesitant to buy it, but ordered it on the first day and became excited with the hype through yesterday's delivery.

As a video editor, I want to use this to network. However, people may be distracted from the work I'm presenting by the novelty of the machine.

Some features like web surfing, photos on the large display and the ability to access Vimeo videos (which req. Flash on the iPhone/Pod) are priceless to me. But to the tune of $800+? Well...

I was VERY frustrated last night when the Wi-Fi connection dropped continuously -- something that never happens on my iPod and iPhone.

That said, it's been less than 24 hours, so maybe give it time? I can only imagine the hardware improvements to come to the iPad, but it is what it is for now, and if the novelty has worn off for you already, hey return or sell it. I prefer Craigslist myself.

If that's the case, I'm sorry. Because it was suggested by another forum member that I sell it and then another member made me an offer, nothing made me think it wasn't okay. Plus, it wasn't the intention of my initial post.

Thanks, and yeah, as I said, I think it doesn't fit me but it's still a really cool device and I think I've even sold my Dad on one. I just don't think I have a use for it.

Anyways, thanks for your thoughts guys and sorry if it was a forum foul to sell it here.

I have a laptop, but I still 'think' the iPad will be useful because it's lighter and starts immediately. Like you said, it depends on the person's needs. It's not for everyone.

I envision it going the way of the iPhone 1st gen and flat screen TVs -- improved hardware and cheaper prices. At that point it'll probably catch on. Also, let's see how the iPhone 4.0 software improves the iPad experience -- exciting!

Price are "crazyh cheap" when product is widely available. If the supply is low or in this case, non-existant overseas, by the law of supply and demand, price will be high.

I sold my OPENED iPad Wifi for $140 higher than retail price, as well as, sold 4 more sealed brand new in box for an even higher profit margin... to international buyers obviously.
Yes, there is listing fees but all in all, I managed to make enough to buy iPad 16GB 3G for myself with the profit money after all the dust has settled ...

Same thing happened couple years ago for the Wii when eBay is the only place you'll be able to grab one of the little bugger. You know people are desperate when they bought Wii for $499 + shipping :rolleyes:
 
Now I am seriously understanding why Apple won't accept cash, thanks to all the iPad buyers that bought it only to make a profit. No wonder there's a limit. :rolleyes:
 
I got a plain Jane 16Gb non 3G iPad right after they were released. I like it because it's great at what it does. I understood going in, though, what it didn't do. The iPad is not a real computer. Period. Paragraph. End of report. It does a wonderful job of allowing you to do light Web surfing, watch some videos, as long as they don't require Flash support, and listen to some books, as long as you pay for most of them. Unfortunately, its browser is crippled by OS X standards (no tabs unless you use Atomic Browser and no bookmarks on an open page if you do use Atomic Browser, among other limitations). The iPad's virtual keyboard is vastly superior to the iPhone's, or that of any other smartphone for that matter, but it's still far harder to use than a real computer's real keyboard.

For the reasons previously stated I agree with the OP's decision to sell his 64Gb iPad. It cost $829 but for between $1,100 and $1,200 you can buy a 13 inch Macbook Pro, which has 4Gb of RAM, a 250Gb hard drive, and a real keyboard. The bottom line to me is that the iPad is probably worth the entry level cost of $499, and maybe even the $629 the 16Gb 3G model sells for. Regardless of what you spent, though, you had better understand you are paying a steep premium for an elegantly designed and very light weight device, which nevertheless can't do many of the real jobs real computers can perform.
