I'm going to take the environmental path here. Apple assumes we already have headphones... and putting out more crap that's going to end up in the landfill is against their environmental policy.

those earbuds are junk and are not good for your ears. be glad they don't come with the ipads.

Can't really think of any tablets that come with headphones. Tons of smartphones that don't come with headphones either.

Are there really many smartphones that don't come with earbuds? I thought almost all of them did. I guess I don't watch enough unboxing videos.

Yeah, not really. The flagships do (S7, G5, etc.) but not the others. At least for Samsung and LG, the note 5 and Galaxy Actives don't get the headphones. Just the standard Galaxy S5,S6,S7, etc

Can't imagine OP today - "While only be given 2 GB of ram was enough to piss me off, seeing that it didn't come with free earbuds made me write a dissatisfied letter to Tim Cook. I'm going Galaxy Tab!"

Well this has made me all nostalgic, wish I could remember what I was doing 5 years ago :D

Oh, and, just because.

Looks like others say that they haven't ever had them...

And last thing I want is another pair of ****** headphones laying around my house.

Over the last few years after several iPhone and iPad upgrades, we have zillions of pairs of Apple EarPods and Lightning cables. Enough to have a full blown charging station on each level of the house, cables for charging in the car, EarPods in each of our bags and drawers etc.

This is hardly an issue.

I have not used wired headphones/buds for years. All my Apple boxes from my older phones still got them tucked away in their boxes.

Good for you. The included earbuds with most products have always been terrible. A good set of headphones is usually an additional purchase, and my good wired ones still sound better than my wireless ones.
