Will be traveling here shortly, I do plan on bringing my iPad, and what I like most about traveling with it, is the compactness. I can do almost everything I need to on my iPad and it doesn’t require any desktop migration for my uses, and having a portfolio case is nice to use on an airplane.

I think the op knows iPads are good for travel, he’s interested which is best suited for this.

The mini would probably fit your needs just fine, maybe even save some cash with a refurb.
Unless one is absolutely married to the mini's size, I would recommend a refurb 2017 iPad over the mini 4 for around the same price or less.

As for travel, the 9.7/10.5 iPads are my Goldilocks-size. Not too big, not too small. :D

Right, I gathered that from reading the other posts and suggestions in this thread. I merely indicating how my usage might relate to the OP’s travel considerations. It’s still relevant to the thread and other posts.

The Pro 10.5 is the way to go if you want to minimise what you carry.

I travel extremely light - I can go for weeks with just a 30L backpack so having a device that can perform multiple uses is key to keeping both weight and bulk to a minimum as too much hardware can quickly add up.

If you want to mix business with pleasure, the Pro 10.5 LTE is the ultimate road warrior device. It can do just about anything you want when you travel, and you can leave the laptop behind. It is small enough to work on the airplane in economy class, yet just big enough to get most anything done and the battery will last all day. Also, I normally read with a Kindle, but to keep my burden even lighter, I can leave it behind too if I'm not anticipating reading more than an hour a day.

I only need the charger, pencil and ASK and I have everything I need. Since all my documents are in the cloud, nothing else is necessary.

I guess it depends what you want to do on the iPad.

For me when I’m commuting to work a mini has always been the best for me as I use my iPad mainly for consumption, web browsing and I might occasionally view a document or do some very minor editing. The trains that I take to work are usually quite packed so a smaller iPad is the way to go. I’ve tried taking larger iPads on my commute but have usually found them to be cumbersome. This includes even the 10.5 inch pro. Just always preferred the mini for commuting.

When I go on vacation I can take a larger iPad with me as the size isn’t so much of an issue and is nice to use in your hotel room or even around the pool etc.

I think however if you need to do work on your iPad then one of the larger iPads would be better and the 9.7 or 10.5 would be better than the 12.9 in terms of portability.

Sounded more like a random me-too post and I struggle to see any relevant information in there.

Rather ironic in the Bolded. If you want to reply to something related, I would be happy too. Otherwise semantics are unnecessary, as you’re post isn’t contributing by this frivolous response, either. However, _on topic_ (Aside from my post prior as mentioned with my own iPad experience), I would suggest the 2017 iPad, its still plenty capable and affordable as a refurbished model with a warranty attached, at least from Apple. The only drawback is the lack of Laminated display. Although, there are sale prices that can be found slightly cheaper at other retailers, but I would I think buying from Apple is a safer bet with their customer service and stringent quality check.
