Goodreader will let you save files like PDFs. If you have it installed an put ghttp:// in front of the link, it will open in Goodreader where you can save it.

ahhh, I will give that a try also! Some good info coming to me in this thread!(Still no excuse for not having the OPTION for a file explorer, its simple really)

personally, I think the bezzle is a perfect size. My only complaint would the lack of a shortcut to adjust the brightness of the screen. i find myself constantly backing out from what I'm doing and going into settings. Luckily, sb settings takes great care of this :) but it's still a hack.

It also Looks like sb settings will still be the simplest way to adjust The brightness even with what 4.0 is bringing (multitasking).

I have auto adjust on now, but does it work? I havent seen my screen adjust yet since I have had it?? I have auto brightness on and the brightness bar is defaulted at 50% brightness...

It works just not very well

The iPhone is a more polished experience, but Android provides the techie-junkies with a much richer experience. The Motorola Droid is an excellent device (and the Incredible as well), and once your root (Droid equivalent of jailbreaking), the development community has a wealth of ROMs and options out there that is outstanding.

I would NOT recommend a Droid to my Mom or Dad, as they need a PHONE. :D But if you are into running terminal sessions on your phone, FTP, direct access to storage, apps from wherever you want, customizing icons, colors, themes, etc., Android is much better than iPhone. If they can bring that same freedom to the tablet market, along with USB ports/mass storage support, techies will have a field day!!! But no doubt the iPad will remain a more polished/controlled experience. Different strokes for different folks! ;)

I don't know if I would say it is better then a J/B iPhone... Can do the same and then some. Since you did mention J/B the android device.

The stuff he mention you can do without a rooted android device.

If you root you get and install cyanogen mods:
Smoother transitions
FLAC play natively in music player
LED notifications that are different colors
You can make us of the LED flash as a Flash light
Bigger app tray 5x5 instead of 4x4

There are other things im missing, but im sure you get the point.

Am I the only one that noticed that the bezel is the exact same width as your thumb?

More observations

Good reader is great... esp paired with dropbox!
Pinball HD is fun!
App advice is cool, its like the app store newspaper.
Aim app is cool esp with facebook intergration... still a little laggy but works!

I get more and more annoyed with having to back out of apps in order to do alot of things... its getting silly.

For example...

I opened Goodreader to attach 2 photos to an email. Good reader proceeded to open my email and attach the photos GREAT! Now Im done composing the message, and when it sends.. I have no where to go? I have to hit the home button to bring me back into the home screen so I can select good reader again and upload the pictures via dropbox???

Why no back button? On android I can always press back and it will take me to my last opened app... I can back back back all the way to the home screen if need be. Sooooooo annoying.. luckily the app switching is fast!

I was in the same position as the OP... I swore I would never get an iPad. Like most of you I am a gadget junkie and wanted a new toy to play with. After completing my first trip with the iPad, I will never travel with my macbook again! The iPad really is the ultimate travel companion as long as your needs aren't outside of what it is currently capable of doing.

That was one thing I liked about my Everun UMPC. Hold down a fn key, and the volume rocker switch would adjust screen brightness.

Unfortunately, Apple seems to think more buttons=low tech.

The Kindle bookreader brightness adjustment doesn't actually seem to adjust the backlight, but just adjusts the contrast.

I wish Apple would make better use of the status bar at the top of the screen to give you some quicklaunch buttons to change screen brightness and other commonly used functions.

It also drives me nuts that there are no cursor controls on the keyboard. When typing, if you notice a mistake, you can't cursor back. Instead, you either have to use the (lame) cut and paste, or try to accurately position your cursor.

My finger is to big to actually land the cursor anywhere near where I want it in text.

They should also add a drawing tool to the notepad. Yeah, I know there is an app for that, but every pda ever released has allowed drawing in the OS supplied notepad. It is just expected.

Ha I was ashamed at first, until I got one! Its a good little device that has its uses, but i could be SOOOOOOOOOO much better... but i still like it;)

Wow, you drove the train off the tracks right there.

I was speaking about most people on this forum.. not in the USA or the World.. im talking about .0000000001 percent of the USA that visits and post on macrumors... and of that.. most people commenting had some real reservations about the ipad!
