Yup, and pricing begins just below $7,500, tax included (around $575 USD) so not really that high from the US price when you take into account the tax of 16% in Mexico.

In fact, if it's really $7,500 with tax included, this means that the base price was the $500 USD and they just added the 16% tax. As far as I know it will include the tax since all prices are shown like that. Anyone care to expand on this idea?

I know finally it will be here in Mexico!, i don´t know what version I should buy, the 32 gb, or the 32gb + 3g one!!! :Dand yes you are right the prices are the same as the US store, at the current exchange rates, they take the US price without the tax, plus the mexican tax (16%) and then, multiply that by 12.90 (this is the dollar price), so its more less the same price!

As a Telcel user i wouldn't spend the extra money over 3G, Telcel's coverage is bad with 3G and is pretty slow, i would just want it because it has GPS, but that's another story, better get the 64GB Wifi one than the 3G 32GB one, also, telcel's dataplans will be bad, probably 500$ for 3GB of data

This is reallly a shame

My friend and neighbor to the south, I am really sorry to hear about your loss to a scam artist. I , like others on this forum highly recommend using services like paypal in the future. This way you can have some buffer of safety when dealing with a large sum of money.

I also do not mean to scold you or anything like that but I do want to remind you that we need to do our part by being smart consumers and check the credibility of the sellers we are dealing with before we decide to do business with them.

Please take precaution in the future and I wish you the best in your future online shopping! I know the feeling because I have also been a victim in the past and it totally sucks!

True. It all depends on what Telcel decides to do, and being that the richest man in the world is behind it, this could go either way. I'm guessing it'll be something similar to their current 3G internet deals. If that's the case, the deal by itself is not that bad for what they offer but the thing is, as Alvi mentions, the coverage is not exactly reliable as far as having a constant speed all the time. It's great if you're in a remote area as you'll probably have coverage since Telcel is everywhere, but don't expect top notch speeds.

Anyways, I'm glad it's here and seems to be price very well, on par with the US prices which I wasn't expecting at all. I'm considering buying one here and then taking it to the UK when I leave in October. Could work.

Here's some more information about the iPad in Mexico, includes pricing for all versions and, although not confirmed, seems to hint that it will in fact go to Telcel (something which we all were 99.99% sure).

Link here.

Modelo Wi-Fi

* 16 GB: 7,498 pesos
* 32 GB: 8,999 pesos
* 64 GB: 10,499 pesos

Modelo Wi-Fi + 3G

* 16 GB: 9,499 pesos
* 32 GB: 10,999 pesos
* 64 GB: 12,499 pesos

So if these prices hold, then we're really seeing the same USD prices but with the added tax for Mexico (and conversion rate around $13.00 per dollar). Opinions on this? I was, honestly, expecting it to be higher, so this is a pleasant surprise.

EDIT:
This website seems to confirm that it will in fact go to telcel since they are already promoting the use of the "microchip" as it will be called.

I have an iPhone with Telcel and although the 3G speeds aren't incredible it does do the job, I would use the iPad + 3G when there is a real need for it and therefore I wouldn't get into one of those monthly plans for $500 but rather week plans or day plans that the already offer for the Pay as You Go (Amigo). I do believe that the both the 3G and the GPS are worth the price, besides I'd rather have less storage than be limited to WiFi only.

How did they get these prices? I can't find the press release for them for Mexico.

The thing of the "Microchip" was uploaded to Telcel's web page over a month ago ;)

Don't know but the low entry for the 16 gb wifi only is on the Apple store and it seems to be just the 500 USD converted and with tax.

:eek: :D Was it with the specific mention of the iPad? I've read about them for some time but this was the first time I specifically saw iPad! In any case, it's coming boys and girls! :D :p :D

Yes, pay as you go plans sound pretty good instead of paying it monthly since I'd only use 3G when I'm outside the city since here most restaurants and public places offer Wi-Fi

My problem is that i wish i would just buy the low end 16GB one, but i definitely need 32GB and I'd totally get the 64GB one instead of the 32GB Wi-Fi + 3G

I wish this things were cheaper :mad: they'll make me spend almost twice as much the money getting the 64GB 3G + Wi-Fi one :D

Naw, I'm going to wait a sec, i would like to play with it a bit, and maybe even wait for iOS4 for the iPad since it's a big bummer without multitasking and stuff...

I got mine today, i asked the guy on iShop about the iPad 3g and he told me that they aren´t going to sell it for now, is that true?? If thats true I don´t know if then I should get the normal ipad with wifi, or wait till Sunday that my parents are going to Mexico city and maybe on best buy they will have it, or maybe I should wait even more since I will go to the US (maybe) on aug 1st

I don't know if they will have it in the US (where are you going?) by that date. I have no idea how supply is at the moment but a few weeks ago the apple store in Tucson had none but before that they had some… so... I guess it's a toss up.

Personally I'm not getting it yet. While I do like it, I have no use for it really, not right now. Once I start school for sure but not right now. Though I really want one and I know I could very well end up buying it. No 3G though, just wifi and most likely 16 gb. I can get by with that.

What's really sad...

sorry if its long but i wanted to share this :S, Im really disappointed on how apple treats us.

SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH IF ITS BAD

What's really sad is that your English is better than most of the American's that I work with. I get reports and letters from them and I'm embarassed for them, and can't believe that English is their native language. Grammatical errors, misspelled words, etc. What did they do in English class for 9 years? Daydream? So you've no need to apologize.

I went and they said they would have all models, their twitter and Facebook said that all models will be available in all of their stores.
Check the retailers that'll have them: http://www.apple.com/mx/ipad/buy/
Anyway the apple online store will have all of them for sale on friday

So it's finally in Mexico and I'm in the US, go figure. Post your comments, reviews, things you like and dislike, etc.

Movistar and Telcel have quite a battle in prices going on.

Telcel offers the $249 for 500 mb or $449 for 5 gb a month (iva included) and you can cancel at any time with no penalty feed. http://www.telcel.com.mx/ipad/planes.html

Movistar has 4gb for $389 and other options too http://www.movistar.com.mx/ipad/

So… which carrier are you going to?

I went with telcel because mexico city doesn't have movistar 3g
Still waiting to get my free data month from telcel...

wow, Movistar seems really good in that matter, 389 a month for 4GB seems great, and I like that they have several mb caps, Telcel in the other hand makes you pay 530$ or something, now I'm even thinking of switching to Movi completely, and those rates make me want a 3G :D

Mercadolibre is a blend of both, it's based on the ebay engine but since mexico is a bit worse on stuff like internet trust it doesn't work as well as ebay, also please read the final posts which aren't really about that anymore :)
