Where did this "information" come from?

EDIT

Starts at 10:46

I wasn't really saying that because I knew what I was talking about. I was saying it pretty much to agree with the other guy so he would stop long enough about this "4x" number for me to make my point. I apologize.

Other then the fact that it does nothing but make the customers' user experience terrible with every device they buy expect them to buy your product again... And again? Sorry doesn't make sense or hold up.

<Customer buys device. Loves said device. 2 software updates later device runs like crap. Customer says this thing is junk, let me buy another from the same company. And then continue to do it over and over again because customer love feeling ripped off?>

I'm know people using iPhone 4's, but that can't be, they're "obsolete." How can they continue to use them? iPad Mini 1 performs better on iOS9 than Mini 2, per thread. Planned obsolescence so everyone can sell their Mini 2 and buy the Mini 1, right?

Oh there definitely ignorance here but not at who you directed it at.

Thanks. I couldn't' convince myself that the post was even worth replying to - well said.

Actually it is more than 4x faster than A5.
A5X was 2x faster than A5.
A6X was 2x faster than A5X.
A7 was 1.5x faster than A6X.

So, all in all, A7 is roughly 6x faster in GPU than A5. So yeah, it is unacceptable for it to run the same or worse compared to mini 1. 9.1 doesn't improve a thing over 9.0.2 as far a performance is concerned. I've been using it on my Air 1 since the beginning.
There is some confusion regarding how powerful the GPU from the A7 is (and which version you're talking about, the 1.3GHz A7 from the iPhone 5s and iPad mini 2 or the 1.4GHz A7 from the iPad Air).

Let's say that the A5 has 1x the GPU performance as a standard. The A5X would be 2x, the A6X would be 4x, and the A7 would be 8x (Apple mentioned in their iPad Air keynote that the A7 has 2x the GPU performance of the A6X). But how can the A7 from the iPhone 5s have the same GPU performance as the iPad Air's A7 if the A6 is 2x the A5 and the A7 is 2x the A6 (or 4x the A5)? I doubt the 0.1GHz difference accounts for the missing 2x factor. This means that Apple lied about the GPU performance either by overstating the A7's GPU performance from the iPad Air or understating the A7's GPU performance from the iPhone 5s. My guess is a combination of both.

I think ultimately the lag comes from the memory technology in the A7 (64-bit single-channel vs 32-bit quad-channel in the A6X). In fact, Apple has yet to return to quad-channel (A9X, perhaps?).

Furthermore, I encourage anybody who believes that Apple intentionally cripples older iOS devices to never buy an iOS device ever again. After all, why would you buy products that are supposedly made slower for no other reason than to sell more products?

Put your money where your mouth is, right?

Apple definitely overstated the power increase of A7 when compared to A6X. A7 is around 50% faster than A6X. (So roughly 6x faster than A5).
What Apple f***** up is all the blurring and transparency effects starting with iOS 7 (and increasing with every new version). The effects are simply too taxing for all but the newest hardware (even A8X and A9 (in 6 plus) have some hiccups from time to time), or Apple's code needs some serious refinement.
iOS 7 introduced transparency and blur.
iOS 8 added (needless) transparency under keyboard in some places. It also added blurring effects when pulling spotlight down.
iOS 9 added even more transparency. The most obvious one being in the app switcher, which isn't 100% smooth on any device.

A friend of mine has an iPad mini 1. They left it on iOS 7 for the longest time as I advised because I didn't want them to cripple their device, and they didn't either. The other day they randomly updated it to iOS 9, and it performed better than I expected. Somewhat better than my iPad mini 2 in a couple areas...

Sliding down for spotlight-the blurring effect. Perfectly smooth, couldn't be better. On my iPad mini 2? It's pretty good, better than 8. But it hovers around 30-40 fps. Keyboard popping up is smooth on both as long as you don't slide down too fast. Now the big deal. The app switcher. Almost 100% smooth on the mini 1, scrolling is pretty good, going into the app switcher is fine, but going out of it can sometimes cause some stutter. My iPad however? Stutter everywhere, entering and exiting the switcher is the worst though. Probably 20FPS.

I just couldn't leave this out of mind. How does Apple let this happen??

Surprised to hear that! I have an iPad Mini 2 in my bathroom as a media device...news/weather/sports etc while showering/shaving...had it on 8.4.1 up until the other day. After the update I was pretty disgusted at performance. Especially while switching apps. The animation lag looks and feels HORRIBLE! They have literally crippled these older devices! Needless to say, since this device doesn't utilize any of the iOS 9 fathers, I'll be rolling it back to 8.4.1 which will be a huge pain in the ass, seeing how it's literally affixed to the wall. Sigh. Here's to hoping future updates fix the severe and unnecessary lag on 'legacy' devices. Even the iPhone 6 side by side videos of iOS 9 and 8.4.1 are showing lag...Apple MUST have taken notice.

Clean install or upgrade? I have iPad mini 2 an have been running the iOS 9 betas prior to the official release and haven't run into any of those issues.

You might do a clean install and see if that helps.

why you not open bug report? Apple is not here.

mini 2 user here running iOS 9.1 b3.

Perfectly smooth, no dropped frames(wth is that anyway), animations and parallex work, spotlight is fast, Siri is instant, everything is excellent. Used the backup all the way since iOS 5.

Obviously not as fast as iPhone 6s. But i have 1-2 seconds to spare when I'm using it in the toilet.
