2GB RAM is required for multitasking (well, dual app tasking, and only on certain apps).
It's a useful enough feature for me to warrant the 2017 iPad or 9.7 iPad Pro.

An iPad Mini 2 can still be a great device, but $230 is too much. I bought a used 32GB recently on eBay for around a hundred dollars and am very happy with it (use the Kindle app more than anything.) They tend to go for more, but shop around and you can find one for a good price.

If you read the OP's replies here, I think $230 in Spain is the equivalent of a great used eBay deal in the US. I think he should go for it ;-)

I also don't think that its fair to say that Apple is notorious for planned obsolescence, but then say that's only if you don't compare it to its main competitor, which is worse.
Android isn't even a topic worth discussing since their update support is incredibly laughable. That's why I wanted to stay on the topic of comparing Apples to ... well ... Apples. :p

eBay isn't so bad as long as you stick to highly rated sellers.

I own the Mini 2 and the new iPad 2017.

Major use of the 2017 of course. But the Mini2 is still with me when in town or travelling. Light and small and gets things done. Slower of course than the new iPad. But just browsing, email or other light use is still fine. Better than an iPhone, due to its display.

Wouldn't buy a new mini today, as the new iPad 2017 is such a deal.

The iPad Mini 2 is the best piece of technology I have ever purchased. I had the original iPad Mini and thought it was slow and the screen was bad, so the Mini 2 with Retina fixed the screen, and the fact that the specs of the Mini 2 were the same as that year's iPad made it fast.

I have used that Mini every single day since I bought it, which was right when it came out. I use it to run my business, literally.

If I had to replace it today, I would definitely feel like I got every cent out of it. But the funny thing is that I have no need to replace it. It runs all my apps and does everything that I want very fast. The only issue I have ever had with it are from the apps makers not updating their app for use on OS 10.

I was saddened to hear that the Mini 2 wouldn't be able to multi-task, but then I was happy to find that it could swipe from 1 app to another (I forget the term) quickly. That is all I need. It makes it easy to enter data from 1 app to another.

Ipad Mini 2 will problably be supported just one more year. It will receive IOS 11. But what about IOS 12?.

So, no , Mini 2 its almost outdated. Not worth buying .

iPad Mini 2 shares the same hardware components of an iPhone 5S. It might get iOS 11 or iOS 10 would be it's last
Even though both iPad Mini 2 and iPhone 5S is 64 Bit, they still clocked at 1.3Ghz While the minimum requirements of 64 bit should be clocked at 1.4Ghz on light devices. 64BIT doesn't matter a lot. besides doubling the score of an iPad 4/ iPhone 5. While iPhone 6 and above is three to four times the score of an iPhone 5. And also it lacks of maaaaany software features like no NFC, apple pay, barometer, it also lacks of Volte.

I'm pretty sure there is 40-60% iPad Mini 2 will get iOS 11 but it would be slow like an iPad 2 in iOS 9

I am 100% sure that Apple will not drop the IPhone 5S and other A7 devices this year. It will be compatible with IOS 11. I expect Iphone 5S will hold up well this year. Maybe , a little bit slower and laggy, but usuable.
If the IPhone 5S will be slower and laggy we don't know yet .But, I don't think it will be like a IPhone 4S on iOS 9. Its important to remember that the IPhone 6 is ONLY 15% faster than IPhone 5S . If IOS 11 slow,IPhone 5S it will slow the 6 too.

If IOS 11 brings a redesign OS, IPhone 5S and 6 users may be in trouble.

IPhone 6 is only 15% faster than IPhone 5S. A8 is not much better than A7 .

Really, IPhone 6 are too underpowered.

You didn't also answered my Question.

When iPad Mini 3 Got iOS 8 it's almost PAR with iPad Air 2, while both iPad Mini 2/ iPad Air starts to struggle
Same as iPhone 2G and 3G both are clocked at 400Mhz
But still iPhone 3G manage to get iOS 4 even it is COMPLETELY SAME with iPhone 2G Specs just with major Features
You already said iPhone 6 Is 25% Faster than iPhone 5S Hahaha i've got you eh. In Logic Almost the same means "STILL FASTER"
Same as iPhone 5S will get iOS 11. While iPhone 6 will exactly get iOS 12.
Since iPhone 6 is faster JUST LIKE YOU SAID 25% it will get 1 or 2 More updates than the AGING iPhone 5S because iPhone 5S is one the WEAKEST and OLDEST APPLE DEVICE to Run 64 BIT.
I already said that in APPLE it doesn't Matter even the device has different specs The NEWER is still FASTER in the End.
Hahaha i've got you.

BTW i have iPhone SE as an iPod Touch and iPhone 7 Plus for everything. And i use them equally.

I disagree. I'm still using a 6 even know, on iOS 10.3. Still running as smooth in my opinion. It's actually exceeded my expectations. I thought I would replace it with a 7, but when the time came, I felt no need to.

No , when Apple drops support for 5S, the 6 will be dropped a year later . Both 5S and 6 have 1GB of RAM . I don't see a reason to support IPhone 6 for that long . 5S will problably get iOS 12 . Apple usually give an extra year for S IPhones .Iphone 4 stopped on iOS 7. 4s on iOS 9.

IPad Air 2 is considerably faster than Mini 3 .

Well, iOS 11 will be it's 4th major OS version. If it starts to slow down at that point, I'd hardly say that it was under powered to start.

My wife's 6+ was so bad that she couldn't hold out for the new iPhone in September so last month she got a 7+. The phone was super laggy.

Really? Tell your own story to the Turtle.

Of course, Even iPhone 5 beats iPhone 7 Plus in loading Camera and Settings
All iPhone Plus Models have higher resolution than the regular size iPhone so they Feel slower.

You're always attacking me in this forum
With my iPhone 7 Plus even with 3GB ram when i compared it to the iPhone SE i can say that iPhone SE is smoother. Same as iPhone 7 Plus being faster than my iPad Pro 12.9 inch and that is 4GB RAM.
Don't you ever notice that after the iPhone 4S Apple made the iPhone 5 3 times powerful than it's predecessor?? Actually iPhone 4S Performance is just 400 Mhz clocked higher than iPhone 2G LOL iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S is clocked at 1.3Ghz while iPhone 4/4S is 800Mhz And that is a big difference.

That is why iOS 10 didn't make iPhone 5 (Even it's 32Bit) and iPhone 5S SLOWER than expected. iOS 10 is even faster than iOS 9.

The problem is you're just focusing how many RAM does the iPhone Has. Well RAM is just for Multitasking, so it won't reload that much. You should reconsider the software features, and CPU/GPU.

Let me tell you a secret my family learned, Apple stinks. My dad got a 6 to replace his SE (which became my phone) and he hated his 6. The 6 never worked and after a while, it just broke. My little brother's iPod just broke out of nowhere (he didn't do anything wrong with it) and my mom refuses to repair it. What do these devices have in common? They are all newer devices! My dad also said, "the SE is Apples's last good phone". On the topic of my dad, he read a bunch of articles saying that Apple's newer devices just break after a year. Also, I had an iPad mini 2 and loved it (I broke it and I don't have the money to repair it), so for my birthday I got the original iPad mini, and I hate it. The OG mini is super laggy, never updates, and it has no storage.
I really wanted to get an animation app but it requires iOS 10. Guess what? My iPad mini 2 updated a lot and I could've gotten that animation app on it! If I were to recommend Apple devices, buy the older ones because they came before Apple realized that they could make more money by making the newer devices to break. Another thing is that Apple's products are super overpriced. So don't be fooled by the "newer device means better", because that is just a false reality that humans want to believe.
