Technically I'm downsizing from the iPad 3, but it's more like actually getting something that works. Anyhow, I'm eager to get to use a smaller variant. Loved my 3 as long as it was useful, but it never felt super portable to have it with me on the bus or such. Fiddled with my friend's iPad Mini and just loved the size. It has the perfect size for my needs as I want something more manageable in everyday life. Perhaps I can now wash away this disdain I've had for Apple ever since the iPad 3 retina debacle.
You’ve had a grudge against Apple since 2012 over the iPad 3? Man, you should let those things go.

I’ve had a couple of minis, but after moving to a 12.9, it’s just too small. I can see the attraction though - bigger than a phone, but still quite portable.

that is exactly why it is my favorite.
If i do something that needs a big screen for „real work“ i usually prefer a macbook. :)

the Pro with the Magic Keyboard came close, but it just gets too heavy and then also just feels like a macbook with limited capabilities.

I’m planning on selling my 2020 11” iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. Since I bought the M1 MacBook Air I’m not really using the iPad Pro for anything except content consumption and email. I was and remain disappointed with Apple’s latest iPadOS update. If Apple has no intention of making the iPad Pro into a real pro device then I can’t really see the point of keeping it.

The iPad mini will be just as good with most of the tasks I’m currently using the iPad Pro for and it is a more convenient size. I’ll probably do less email on the iPad mini but the MBA is fine for any tasks needing a lot of keyboard use.

I’m downsizing from my current 2018 11” iPad Pro. Doing so because I primarily use it as a media consumption device, no real working, so the mini will probably be a better fit for my specific use case. I have an M1 MBA for any heavy lifting I may need to do.

All that said, going with the 256GB version (which I did) is a tougher pill to swallow at over $700 with tax!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I’m trading in my IPP, and I’m getting $420 for it from Apple, which was too good to pass up.

I used the Mini back in the day. I liked it's size and everything, but I mainly consume media via my iPad nowadays, so I feel the Mini, even with the all screen design is a bit on the small side. I'll stick with my Air 4.

I’ll be downsizing from the 2017 10.5 iPad Pro. I want to try a smaller iPad this time. It’s also time for an upgrade.

Coming from an iPad 6. Only have it because it was part of a carrier deal. 32GB storage and 2GB of RAM is unbearable (have to watch what I put on it and apps often crash), it's a little too big for me (especially with those massive bezels), and the 1st gen Pencil is a joke with the way it charges (sure, I can charge it using a cable or dock with that adapter but it's faster when I stick it in the bottom of the iPad...) The Mini 6 is the iPad I actually want so I preordered one as soon as preorders opened up.

This might sound strange, but one of the reasons I'm downsizing is because I want to get back to using my iPad for what I used to use it for - reading books, browsing the web, emails and stuff on the sofa, in bed etc. I've got a 12.9" Pro which seems to never be detached from the great Magic Keyboard and as a result its totally changed what the iPad is when I'm not working.

I'm also excited (sad) to use it for taking notes as it seems to be the perfect size for that.

The mini 6 will complement my Air 4 on its MKB. Hopefully the Mini should be small enough to fit in my Man bag so i can take it with me when commuting etc.

More and more im getting into field work and working on the go. Standing and taking notes on the mini would be a lot easier than the 11" iPP. The portability factor of it is the biggest draw. Though before I order one, Id like to get hands on with it. Hoping next Friday the apple store has some on display to play with. But there is already a 75% chance Ill be buying one.

The one thing im hesitant about, the 11" gets a lot of work done using the magic keyboard. And while the new mini will be able to do what my pro can do, I fear that the lack of the magic keyboard may make it a bit more difficult for me. Only testing it will determine!
You can pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard, my last Bluetooth keyboard used to run out of charge each 6 months which was never an issue. However, I’m not sure any iPad Mini keyboard will have a touchpad.

Very interesting. More people are downsizing from the 11" Pro than are keeping the 11" alongside the Mini 6. By contrast, among owners of the 12.9" Pro, more people are keeping their 12.9 than are downsizing from it.

I'm in the latter group, keeping my 12.9 and bringing on a Mini 6 to use as a second iPad. This suggests that the Mini 6 will cannibalize iPad Pro 11" and Air 4 sales more than 12.9 sales.

It makes sense. If one's buying 12.9, then that's usually because they want/need the bigger display.

Meanwhile, someone getting 10-11" might be more concerned with portability.

Have MacBook Air M1, iPad Pro 11 M1, LG Gram 15" 2021, Latitude 7410 2021, and Acer Spin 713 2021. Need to simplify some redundancy. Have the Mini 6 coming and will replace the iPP11. Will then likely get rid of the Gram and keep the Latitude since it has a 4 year onsite warranty and will last forever no more than I use it. The Spin I find I use more than the iPP11 so will likely keep it.

I am not in the market for the mini, however will be downsizing from the M1 12.9” iPad Pro to the next Mx iPP 11” + MKB.

I have realised the size is simply not practical & compact for my use case, hence going back to 11”

iPad Air 4 to iPad mini 6 for myself. I've been a huge fan of the iPad mini since the introduction of the first model. I had an iPad mini 5, I preordered it, but I upgraded about 8 - 9 months ago to the iPad Air because I wanted the modern design. Now that the iPad mini 6 is what we, as iPad mini fans, have wanted for a long time, I'm anxiously awaiting mine to arrive!

Reading in bed, with a nearly 13" iPad is... Barbaric? Wait, um... Ill advised? It's 'huge', the Otterbox cover is huge, and together, it's heavy, and it's huge, and the cover is so large, there's almost not enough room in bed for two people, and the cover! (And after my original 12.9 refused to uniformly dim the screen, and had a dead pixel, and was replaced, the screen at least behaves, but I wonder if it too will go too bright like the old one) I have been cheating on my 12.9 with the iPad Mini 4, and finding, oddly, that the screen seems 'smaller' (Too small?). I read both without my glasses, and reading the large one is a bit much, but, heck, I don't know. Maybe I should cancel the Mini. I don't know. I like the size of the Mini, but... HAH!!! Apple, I'm sure, wanted us to face this conundrum. 'Just buy both' would be their likely answer. *sigh*

It is kind of funny how far this has come.
People are "reading in bed" with a 13" flat screen monitor on their lap?

lol :p

More power to ya' - just cracks me up a bit..

Meh, before tablets, I used to read ebooks and manga in bed using my 15" laptop tethered to a power adapter. Any iPad is already a major improvement in form factor and battery.

Besides, most hardcovers are around the same size as the 12.9" Pro when reading in 2-page landscape mode. Actually, the hardcovers are probably bigger (and heavier).
