That said, adding Pencil support to the Pro line of iPhones could A) bringing sketching and note taking potential to a device screen that could totally handle sketching while B) make a nice differentiator for the Pro line. Yeah, I remember what Steve said about styli and fingers. Steve said lots of things that ended up evolving. He also said that when the devices were 1/2 the size as they are now. 😜

I have never understood who the mini is for? My phone is 6 inches. My iPad 10 is 11 inches. Who wants an iPad just bigger than a phone.? For me the iPad is for a big screen. And my iPad was half the price of this!
It's a nice size for reading a book. Other than that, I agree.

Of all the Apple iOS devices, the Mini is easiest to type on. That's the biggest plus as someone who doesn't own any iPad lol.

And then it's the perfect size for reading.

I use the mini in aviation. It is mounted on the yoke of the airplanes I fly and holds all the charts and approach plates. Larger iPads will not fit on the yoke.

Those bezels. Eesh.
It's probably either the notch or the quarter-inch bezel. But the main reason why iPads have a bigger bezel than the iPhones is that it demands a more stable grip to support the larger weight and area.

Having said that, at 9.43 mm, iPad mini 6 and 7's bezels is significantly wider than other iPad models, including the previous generation iPad mini. Newest iPad Pro M4 has less than 7 mm bezel.

I probably will get a 2nd mint MBP 16" I9 2019 for even less money. Not that cute but it does the Job much better.
What job is that , using in bed, using on a plane, using anywhere a 4.5 pound brick isn't ideal. At least they both have the same 500 nits brightness. Macrumors hyperbole is always entertaining.

My M4 Pro 11 is a pain in the butt in portrait because of thin bezels and camera placement.

Playing Movies and music at the kitchen or in my garden.

Agree, and same here. I really really wanted the OLED and anti-reflective from the M4 Pro but.... just too big 😢

I think this phrase has been said before in regarding to Apple products. Those who are upgrading from the Mini 6 to the Mini 7, congratulations! You just bought the same product, twice 😂

Earlier this month, Apple announced a new iPad mini for the first time in three years. Ahead of the device launching this Wednesday, we have outlined 12 new features and changes with the seventh-generation iPad mini compared to the previous model.

Here's everything new with the iPad mini 7:

  • A17 Pro chip: Introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro models last year, the A17 Pro chip is now available in the iPad mini 7, although it has a 5-core GPU instead of a 6-core GPU. Apple says the iPad mini 7 offers up to 30% faster CPU performance compared to the previous iPad mini with the A15 Bionic chip.
  • 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence support: The new iPad mini is compatible with Apple Intelligence, which will be available starting with iPadOS 18.1 next week. Geekbench results confirmed that the device is equipped with 8GB of RAM, the minimum requirement for Apple Intelligence. That's up from 4GB of RAM in the iPad mini 6.
  • Apple Pencil Pro support: The new iPad mini is compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro.
  • Apple Pencil hover: This feature lets you preview the Apple Pencil's stroke on the canvas before the accessory touches the screen.
  • "Jelly scrolling" fixed? Most reviews said "jelly scrolling" is much less noticeable or fully absent on the new iPad mini, but one prominent technology website disagreed, so we await teardowns for further confirmation.
  • Faster USB-C port: The USB-C port on the iPad mini 7 supports data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps, compared to 5 Gbps for the iPad mini 6.
  • eSIM only: All cellular models of the iPad mini 7 lack a nano-SIM card slot worldwide and instead rely solely on digital eSIM technology.
  • Wi-Fi 6E support: The new iPad mini supports the faster Wi-Fi 6E standard, which extends the capabilities of regular Wi-Fi 6 to the 6 GHz band. You will also need a router with Wi-Fi 6E support.
  • Double the base storage: iPad mini now starts with 128GB of storage, compared to 64GB for the previous model.
  • Final Cut Pro support: Final Cut Pro is compatible with the new iPad mini.
  • Improved HDR photos: The new iPad mini supports "Smart HDR 4," whereas the previous model supports "Smart HDR 3." Apple says Smart HDR 4 makes photos look "even more detailed and vivid."
  • "iPad mini" inscription: The new iPad mini has an "iPad mini" inscription on the back of device. Previous models of the device are inscribed with "iPad."

Don’t forget: Bluetooth 5.3 (from 5.0)
Also I would add: double max storage to 1 TB 512 GB (that’s much more important to me than base storage)
I might also highlight some of the new features of the A17 Pro like hardware raytracing to improve things like gaming.

edit- storage doubled to 512 GB, not to 1 TB

And @ 1150€ for 512GB not even a Sim-Tray. Displayquality like a Iphone 10 Yrs ago...
hmm where did you get that price form, here in Norway (usually exspensive when it comes to electronics) the cellular version comes in at €1125.50 (according to googles currency conversion as of Oct 23, 07:59 UTC ). as for the lack of sim tray, i don't see the big issue just use e-sim

Without an M1 it’s DOA in my opinion, in a way even worse than the ‘only bought by schools’ base iPad. Waiting for the teardown to see if they have changed the orientation of the LCD’s display circuitry otherwise it will still suffer from jelly scrolling.

Right i forgot that some providers for some unfathomable reason haven't implemented e-sim yet. Yoyu would think they would love to ability to sign up new costumers without issuing physical sims (esp providers that don't have physical presence in stores and need to mail said sims), but I'm shore I'm missing something. Hmm so German prices are even higer than Norwegian prices. interesting... From Apples standpoint it makes sene, no regulations anywhere (as far as i know) requires a physical sim tray for cellular capable tablets, the production cost per device i slightly lower since they would be endlessly mocked for not including e-sim so that has to be there anyway, byt i supect very few people will complain to apple for oniting physical sim slot, mor lightly they will moan at their supid providers (rightly so imho) for dryging their feet on geting e-sim implemented. Net result for apple; worst case some returned devices but probably insignificant numbers. unintended secondary impact, more pressure on MNOs and VMNOs to get E-sim implemented so a few years doen the line Apple can drop physical sim slots on all their devices (my un-educated guess would be Arron iPhone 20), which is probably their ultimate goal anyway, that internal space along dthe devices edge can shorley be used for something better.

I don't know muc about the E-Sim. But regular sim's are easy to get and to change. And i personally think, they are even more secure. Of course, the future is E-Sim; but not all providers offer them. The whole game will change, if the normal standart will be the multi-sim. But that will take few more years...

W-sims are even easier, download the app Sign up for a new contract (which you need to do to get a sim anyway) a few clicks and the esim is install, a few minutes later it's active (unless you have to wate for your old number to be ported), most device with e-sim support at lest 2 esims and you can switch between the in the menu system or set up which sim to use for which Connect etc, much easier than to faff around with nano sims and the exact too/paperclip you never seam to have handy when you need it. but your milage may vary

It’s at least made for me.

If I could always have a device that size with me, I would. I can’t — it’s too big — but when I’m home, I can do everything I do with my phone with this iPad, including use it as a flashlight.

(not that a flashlight super important, but I did miss that occasionally from the pre-6th gen models. Now there’s nothing I miss — okay except Apple watch syncing.)

Plus USB-C for us lightning phone users means it’s easier to hook up to a keyboard and monitor and do some “real” work. Not often, but did as recently as this week.

iPad Air & friends are too big to use comfortably one-handed. mini is “home portable”.

mini also has Pencil support, and now that it comes with 128 gigs storage, even the base level is usable. Honestly just that storage upgrade makes it the perfect at-rest device.

Upgraded processor is a bonus. I already use the 6th gen when I go Zwifting with no complaints. Even have a game controller frame I put around it for gaming.

And there’s no better size for reading.

It’s honestly my favorite Apple device by a mile.
