Do you know if this persists across system updates?

I highly doubt it. Odds are the file MisakaX edits gets reset upon system update. So I'm enjoying it while I can. Been eyeing a few android based systems for my small tablet multitasking needs.

No, the iPad mini doesn't have Stage Manager or Final Cut Pro support.

Very stupid that the A12X iPad Pro has it but not the mini.

How does the external monitor support work for the iPad Mini 6 and iPad Mini 7 exactly?

  • will it simply mirror the iPad screen and keep that one on the whole time, while having big black bars on the external monitor (Full HD 1080p, (W)QHD 1440p, 4K UHD 2160p)?
  • will the touchscreen work during the mirroring/external monitor output?
  • Are there any changes possible to the external monitor resolution and refresh rate?
  • Will a bluetooth keyboard and mouse work with a external monitor connected iPad Mini?
  • Can you recommend any compact dongles/docking stations or other accessories that would make it possible to use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, an external storage device (USB-C Stick, external SSD, SSD integrated into a docking station - all while being connected to an external monitor somehow?

Pretty much. I think some apps like Keynote can display slides in the correct aspect ratio on the external display, while the iPad shows a presenter mode.

Yes.
  • Are there any changes possible to the external monitor resolution and refresh rate?
No, it should automatically output at the highest possible.
  • Will a bluetooth keyboard and mouse work with a external monitor connected iPad Mini?
Yes.

Thank you very much for the answers @Moukee

Do you know by chance if it also works with a docking station of some kind (that has an external drive) in between the iPad and Monitor?

Most USB-C hubs/docks should work fine. Just keep in mind that docking stations requiring Thunderbolt won't work and DisplayLink docks won't work (for display output at least) because there's no DisplayLink driver for iPadOS.

As an example I have an HP Z27q G3 monitor with USB-C, and my iPhone 16 Pro happily mirrors its display to the 4K screen (scaled, obviously), the keyboard I attached via USB works, as does the microphone and headphones (also via USB). Even ethernet works. Just the mouse doesn't, but it should work under iPadOS.

You can get cheap USB-C hubs from Anker or similar brands and they'll likely just work.

EDIT: And yeah, most USB drives should also work fine. As for docks with an SSD built-in, you'll have to check the specs, because it'll likely not work if the PCIe lanes from the (NVMe) SSD are just forwarded, as that would require Thunderbolt.

Meaning when mirroring a video/film or streaming let’s say a film on HBO Max on a monitor, it will expand its ratio to full screen like an iPad Pro does?

Yup. It's like streaming a video via AirPlay.
AirPlay confuses me. Sometimes my LG tv streams through AirPlay without issues other times a black screen comes up asking me to connect AirPlay and I can’t get through.

I meant in a sense that when streaming video via AirPlay, the player UI is still shown on the phone/tablet but the video itself is shown on the TV. It's more reliable via cable than AirPlay.

He is afraid to tell you no hahaha… Stage manager on the mini is kind small… no? Oh and the problem was the ram not the chip and now that it has 8gb it is ok but still the problem is the size and reasons to buy the iPad Air…

Hi all,

For me that's the real question.
Will the iPad mini 7 actually support Stage Manager ?

The A17 pro certainly is as capable as the M1 chip but Apple did not update this page

I can picture myself using the iPad mini quite a lot to replace my iPad Pro M1 but I would need to plug it to my external display from times to times
nope sadly

it should but it won't

funny it runs A17 pro but needs to be an ipad pro to run stage manager. they can't use the bull about needing ram when the ipad mini 7 has 8 GB now

I see several people commenting about stage manager issues. I’ve been using it everyday on a 13” M4 ipad pro for work and love it. In fact, when I picked up my MacBook Air at home after a month or two with only the iPad I immediately realized how much I had adapted my workflow because and how much faster it made me feel with a lot of my tasks. I had only ever used macOS more or less like I used to use windows. It was an interesting relevantly moment for Me. But yeah, I have loved using stage manager with an external monitor in my office. I use the logitech combo touch out in the field, but plug in my dock with a 10-key keyboard and a magic trackpad at the office and it is fantastic. i can do about 99% of my workflow on it. The one thing I want on it is the Windows file browser. If I had that with the explorer pane, drag and drop, and copying and pasting folders I could do 100% of my job everyday in office he field and I would be perfectly happy doing it.

With as small as the screen is on the mini, I wouldn’t expect Stage Manager ability. And even if it were offered, I wouldn’t use it. I do use it all the time with my M4 iPads.
I think people that want to use it (on the mini) want to do so in combination with an external screen. Even on my 11" Pro space is pretty limited on the internal display. 13" is another story.

but we’re not asking for it to use in the iPad itself, it’s the ability to use it on a monitor so we don’t have to deal with a mirrored version. That’s why we’re asking for stage manager.

I 100% am asking to use Stage Manager on iPad Mini itself. For small display multitasking - I find Stage Manager much nicer than even the freedom of Android multitasking. I am actively already doing this with the MisakaX work around. The value of being able to group apps together and quickly swap between those groups is extremely valuable to me.

I just want it to work on a monitor and I’ll be very happy

Not sure it will work with iOS 18.1
