I had no idea - that's great to know. Will they do that in the store too?
They did for me a couple years ago when I purchased a pair of AirPods.
I just showed them on my phone that they were $50 cheaper at Best Buy, and while Apple didn’t completely 100% price match the difference between them and Best Buy ended up only being like $15 after the 10% discount.

I use mine primarily in landscape, but during the times I do use it in portrait I don't really notice the scrolling issue. Sensitivity to it is different for everyone, I guess.

Definitely a sensitivity issue. I have the 6 and never noticed the jelly scrolling until I read about it and while I can see it, it doesn't bother me at all. Like fingernails on a blackboard - doesn't bother some people, others will be driven up the wall by it.

Well lots of us in the Apple ecosystem have dual hand held devices.
iPhones & iPads.

Got my new iPad mini, did setup, installed apps.
Then the big shocker .. app organization, is there’s app / utility that will mimic what you have for folder structure / apps in it across say 2 devices?

I’m not talking downloading, but once done compare a “master device” folder structure in device A and the “second device” B simply folder names and apps are organized same as much as possible (samely is not a word, but applies here)

Is there an app to do it?

Without that’s a whole lot of drag n drop onto and folder renaming ..

Like Firefox has sync bookmarks / etc across devices, which I love.

TIA,
Mike R

Alas, you’ll need to submit a feature request for Apple.

I just do it manually.

Have you tried restoring the iPad from the iPhone backup too see if that would give you the folder organization at least?

^^^ I’ll try that now, thx

My iPhone is a 1TB model .. 256GB iPad mini, will limit the restore to no audio or images (over 30k pictures)

I added the 2 TB backup plan iCloud and it’s been backing up this one terabyte iPhone for about an hour and a half now, I got about 600 GB in it. I also have a very high speed data plan at home, but I guess it just takes a long time to do it the first time through. Then I can use the iPhone backup to restore the iPad and it should keep all of my organization structure. That’s the endgame.

Holy long time syncing ... like 4+ hours now ... chugging away so slowly , phone is plugged in glad I'm not driving / away from home .. and my adult kids are all away from home so no data caps either ....

5.5 hours finished … now restoring from iPhone

Well, it’s sort of worked after a long back up to the iCloud, then synchronizing to the iPad mini, but all it did was pull over all the same apps, but they didn’t put it in the same folder structure.

That seems weird and it seems like it should’ve known the full structure came from cause that’s how an iPhone backup would’ve done it, so I expected the apps to be put into the same folder structure on the iPad mini, not necessarily an exact same placement on the page, that didn’t matter, but all the apps in the correct folders would’ve been icing on the cake.
As it is now, I have to go to the tedious task of dragging , dropping apps onto apps into folders, just a PIA.

Don't know why it's so complicated to organize the apps/folders manually… after all these are two different devices, and each one will look a bit different at the end.

Part of the fun (for me) with a new device is to re-arrange it and on the way to delete/not install apps I do not use.

What’s in each folder is already categorized by “likenesses”, that categorization transcends devices, think about it.

The Japanese have a term called “mudah” , roughly translates as a waste of energy.

I guess we agree to disagree on this, all good

Only thing I’ll add.
When I organize stuff, I remember it.
Having the iOS “do it” I get some like that , I don’t.

Yup, we're all different. I have certain folders that are consistent between devices (dedicated folders for Apple, Microsoft, and Google apps, a Travel app folder and a Health and Fitness folder). The apps within these folders may differ, as I don't necessarily need them on both devices but the main categories stay the same. I too don't use the default categories that iOS has, and I never go looking through them, opting instead to just search for rarely used apps that I don't place on my home screen.

The grabbing, dragging and dropping of apps to organize them gets cumbersome but thankfully it's just a one time kind of thing. Many people I know dread the setup of a new device because of the time investment needed to get things organized. I kind of get it but I never feel the same since I know that ultimately the investment will be worth it.

Any price drops expected after today's Apple event ?

Looking at Mini 7 w/ cellular for flight school.
It seems to go on sale for $100 Off at Best Buy every few weeks.

Doubt the iPhone 16e announcement will have an effect on the price of the Mini 7, though.

It is lame that the Mini has A17 (binned) Pro and the “budget” iPhone is A18 (binned). Maybe the Mini will get another refresh next year with a processor bump, or maybe not. They’re probably not too far apart in performance.

Returned mine not worth $995AUD with folio.
The jelly scrolling and blur is too much for a device that is best used in portrait.
Up your game Apple.

I think this suggests how poorly the iPad Mini sells, because Apple is able to use the old binned A17Pro chips without worrying about running out of stock (no doubt quite of a lot of the chips are unused non-binned chips with a GPU core deactivated).

The vast majority of the buying public knows nothing about the nuances of processor models; they just see an iPad in the form factor they want. The Mini continues in the 10-12% of iPad sales range.

I caved in and bought a 7 to replace my much-loved 5. I couldn't stand the Jelly scrolling on the 6 when I used a friend's or in store, but am finding it tolerable on the 7. Since the screen does not seem to have changed, perhaps I am less fussy now or the faster CPU is keeping the refresh rate a bit more stable.
