I'd get the next nexus. The Snapdragon 600/800 (expected to be used in the refresh) blows away the a5 plus the much better screen than the ipad in the existing nexus is supposed to be upgraded even more. I just also find iOS too limiting. My friend had both for several months and recently sold the mini.

Agreed. Even the current n7 has a far superior screen to the iPad mini.

Exciting stuff. I may sell my ipad 3rd gen. Except for a few exclusive games here and there I really see no advantage anymore in staying with an iOS tablet.

Part of me wants to wait for iOS 7 but I'm not sure how well the ipad 3rd gen will run it. Definitely not worth upgrading to new hardware unless the new ipad mini offers comparable specs and retina screen, and I guess sees a price drop. Very doubtful.

Anyone know how much ipad 3rd gens 32 gig wifi only are going for lately?

You probably wouldn't get much more than $400 for it. 32GB is kind of the awkward one IMO. Most people either buy a smaller one for price reasons, or they buy the more expensive one for max storage. 32GB doesn't fit into either of these. I am expecting to have the same problem with mine though. I am thinking I'll get around 300-400.

But hey if you are getting rid of that because of the new Nexus, $300 should be enough if they keep similar price points :)

My background is that of a hardcore Android lover. I love Android on the phone and will probably not switch back to iPhone anytime soon.

I have a daughter and have purchased some apps for my Nexus 7 for her and games for me too. I sold my Nexus 7 in anticipation for the next Nexus 7. When that wasn't announced at Google I/O, I decided to go out on a whim and buy the iPad Mini for $299 at Wal-Mart.

I love that apps like ABC, NBC, Nickelodeon all have quality streaming video. None are available on the Nexus 7. The con is that I'd have to buy apps for two different platforms if I want them on both the tablet and the phone.

I guess I'm just looking for thoughts on if I should keep the iPad Mini or wait it out and get the next Nexus 7 tablet. Anyone have both an iPad and an Android phone?

I had both the nexus 7 and iPad mini and I have to say that I found the lack of a user accessible file system to be troubling on a tablet. More so than it is not having it on my
Phone. So if I were you, I would go with the nexus.

While not a file manager, could take over for document management on multiple devices and easy access to giant volumes of cloud storage.

I have an love my HTC One. It seems on a tablet, my needs are web browsing, watching Amazon, Netflix, HBO, CBS, NBC, ABC, etc and gaming.

The iPad does all of that very well, while the Nexus 7 doesn't do some of the video things. However, I'm hoping that in time, we will see those providers with Android apps that work well.

Any chance a new Mini is announced at WWDC?

Lots of ignorance here about the N7...

Jelly Bean is a great OS. And it'll only get better. Your getting pure Android, not some other version. For me there's no lag at all. Not saying iOS is bad, but it needs updating and some may not like the limitations of the walled garden or lack of customization. To each his own.

Build quality shouldn't be the reason why you buy a mini. That's just silly. Its nice to have, but if the software is lacking what's the point.IMO

The apps on Android are great and the quantity is dramatically catching up the app store. The app store advantage is becoming moot now.

The N7 out specs the mini in nearly every way. That's a fact.

In the end its up to you. I gave me the facts about the N7 and Android. Yes you will hear a lot negative things about the Lil robot here because Android is the enemy around these here parts. Its kinda funny actually of how much misinformation is said about Android.

I got the Nexus 7 back in January just to see what all the buzz was about. Everything about it just screamed "unfinished" and "clunky".

Traded it for a Mini just the other week and it is superior to the Nexus is almost every area.

We now have both. I never thought I would say that as we are hardcore Apple fans, but when my 9 year old wanted a tablet there was no way I was spending the higher cost for him.

We got him a Nexus 7 and he loves it, although he does miss iMessage and hopes Google gets Hay Day soon, but most of what he likes to do can be done on the Nexus.

I have been playing with it a bit and am starting to like it more. At first I was almost encouraging him to return it, but it is a cool little device.

DH says he thinks he will get an Android phone next. He is looking at the Galaxy NOte or S4 or whatever will be out in a year when his work agrees to the upgrade.

I will most likely stick with Apple products as they just seem more intuitive to me and for a non-techie like myself, that is a big deal. :D

If you have kids under 10, there are more "most have apps" for them (iPad apps).

I find mainstream apps appear on iPad way before android. And when they appear on android they aren't as polished as iPad/iOS apps.

Disney/Disney junior still aren't on android and its been like 10 months? The stand alone disney app that u can stream over 3h/4g and not need to be on your home wifi network.

It's just one example. But kids love these things.

i've also noticed this with nickelodeon apps. Virtually none on android.

I think I'm going to stick with the iPad. If there's an app I need on both, I'll just buy on both.

May as wait for the next generation version of the N7. It'd likely be in a few weeks. In the mean time, you could get the Mini for $249 or the N7 for $149 in some places.

I'm sure it will run ios 7 just fine. I have a second gen that runs ios 6 just fine.
