Won’t be a pro
Agreed. Either a Mini Air or a Mini basic. Pro just isn’t in the cards, unfortunately. It wouldn’t be a smart move for Apple because it wouldn’t sell enough to justify all the work/expense that would go into it.

As much as I’d love a Mini Air design, even that seems too good to be true, given how reluctant Apple is to ever redesign the Mini.

If they do redesign it and it doesn’t sell, get ready for another 3-4 year wait, like we had between the 4 and 5. Or even more likely, the end of the line altogether.

I’m going to predict that the next Mini launches spring of next year, since 2022 is the 10 year anniversary of the Mini. Then it can be released alongside the next Air and match that one’s specs.

But it could still be this year, so Apple has a couple new iPads to announce this fall. iPad 9th gen and iPad Mini 6th gen.

This has been my analyst report for today.

Thank you.
Apple has shown they don't care for iPad anniversaries.... At this points it seems clear that iPad 9 and mini will be announced at the same time....

When the classic Mini chassis is retired, so too will smartcovers. I know that I'm one of the last few who prefer smartcovers over full cases and folios. That is confirmed by the basement bargain prices for new OEM Mini smartcovers. Nobody seems to want them, so I get to snag up some in different colors for a fraction of the original MSRP. $5 for a new Product (RED) mini smartcover is a great price and looks great on it.

I hope they do come out with a iPad Air design for the mini, i love my iPad mini 2 and it is still going strong for basic functions 8 years later… it‘s like the Goldilocks size for me just right.

…..With that said, Apple could potentially go OLED on both Mini 6 and Air 5 at the same time. If so, the delay will likely be forgivable for most.
If Apple goes OLED with the Air 5, I’ll sell my 2018 IPP and switch to the Air line. The one reason I didn’t upgrade to the M1 11 inch is the display technology on the 11 inch didn’t change.

I just want them to release a new one, preferably with USB-C, 6 GB of RAM and a larger display in roughly the same dimensions. Want a small iPad but buying the old one right now wouldn’t be that fun.

The question really is whether or not the new Mini 6, if there is one, will use USB-C instead of Lightning. I think I'm correct in saying that all of the other current iPads apart from the iPad-iPad (8th generation) and the Mini 5 all use USB-C now. The choice of port will give an idea of how Apple view the Mini. Unless the iPad-iPad (9th generation) also switches to USB-C, but then why not do that when it came out, 9 months ago?

the mini is in the same segment as the air, so it will take USB C and the rest of the redesign, just one year later (why later? I think the question is more, why the air 4 earlier? Maybe to sell more Magic Keyboards? Just saying... ;) )
The base iPad is keeping lightning for at least 2 more generations (laminated this year with same A12 and same design with A14 next year). What will happen in 2023 maybe is not even decided yet... But before the base iPad can get the USB C and the rest of the redesign (again no earlier than 2023), the air 5 needs to get some distinctive improvement in 2022, like OLED, but at that point the 11 pro must come at least at the same time with mini-led...

Nah, there will be nothing changed
So certain? I’m not even saying you’re wrong. It’s anyone’s guess. I wouldn’t be shocked if they released a Mini that has a slightly larger screen due to decreased bezels, but still having a home button. We shall see.
