Smaller doesn't mean lower resolution. It can actually be the same or higher resolution on a 5" or 7" screen. Something not as heavy. It wouldn't replace the iPad, it would be an option. Different strokes... :p

I like the heavy weight and wouldnt mind if it was heavier. Im sick of cheap plastic garbage and this constant chase to make things lighter which is of no quality benefit to the customer.

The benefit would be to be able to hold it up while lying in bed for a while longer without having your hands go numb... :p

If there will be a half sized ipad. I would be interested to buy it, but buying 3 different size for each app is ridiculous! A lighter ipad would be enough for me. Maybe about 450gram ipad, who knows that next year the battery technology is becoming like feather weight, so it's still using the alumunium and glass screen.

Lay it on your legs or on your belly with one hand resting on the back. Works wonders. Can't imagine why you'd hold it in one hand straight up.

The iPad is a great device, but I think it's screen should have been slightly larger say right on 10", an this would require a slightly larger IPS display and could be done without increasing the iPad size physically, by way of halving the bezel thickness (black border). I personally wouldn't want any smaller than the current iPad.

its 9.7"

....the difference is negligible.

I like even numbers - 10" would be perfect.

Round numbers are nice, but yes, the difference is negligible.

Stats........................9.7 inch 4x3.........10 inch 4x3
Width.......................7.76 inches...........8.00 inches
Height......................5.82 inches...........6.00 inches
Area.........................45.16 inches.........48.00 inches

Apple, in their usual super-secret way, actually introduced such a device already, right under our noses! And to beat all, they introduced it two-and-a-half years ago! We never even knew it! Behold, ladies and gentlemen, I give you the iPad nano!

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I would want one. I think the iPad could be a useful device but right now I have absolutely zero use for it because it's too big to carry around with you and use without being ridiculously conspicuous and I don't really lounge around at home so I wouldn't use it there. I like the idea of something a little larger than a smart phone with 3g access but no phone service so you don't have to worry about things like coverage etc (very important for your phone but less so for an accessory device like a tablet). It would be great to use as an ereader and browse the web say on the train to work etc. Places where the current ipad seems a bit impractical (to me atleast)

Anyway hope this rumor is true!

Kewl! Would you mind adding a 5" and 7" just for giggles? :D

I can see the new Touch this Fall being like the new iPhone in features but that's about it for size.
I used to think the iPad would be better if smaller and more portable but I've grown accustomed to the size and readability. I think that the current size is the one they are going to stick with. I don't need to buy another smaller one and if I really need portability there is the Touch.
