iPad , No iPhone !

I don't know why your making this such a big deal. Have you even gone to an apple store or even a Best Buy and tried it out? As many said it's really fast I dbout 512MB would make it noticeably faster. May be a tad bit.

For what? Unless a major feature like a camera or a thinner bezel (not too thin but enough so we can still place our fingers on it) I don't see it being a surprise. Not many care how much ram it has.

You are probably right !

I have owned one for 5 weeks now.

I will take the advice posted earlier ,

Buy it , Enjoy it , Upgrade it ! ........ Good advice !

Can always sell it later when ipad2 comes out.

The iPhone *is* the more expensive device.

As someone already posted, a 16GB iPhone costs $599, which is $100 more expensive than the 16GB iPad at $499.

Besides, your iPad should have a slightly smaller RAM overhead anyway. It's not like it has to constantly be running services that are looking for incoming phone calls/txts/etc.

Apple products do have a good resale value, just take care of it and be sure to sell it before the next gen is offically announced. If I were to make up a number I would say that you would proabably lose 100-200$, but I think that losing 100-200$ is worth it, considering you are using it for months.

I'm wondering the same thing, why it's so difficult for you to understand Apples business model. Are they relying on all of us to get excited and buy the ipad BEFORE the iphone4 gets released? Yes. Are they relying on us to AGAIN buy the ipad2 when it gets released with retina view and 512mb memory BEFORE the iphone5 gets released with new features? Yes.

I understand where you are coming from, from a technological point of view YES Apple could have put the 512mb into the ipad very easily. No one is disputing that. What puzzles me though is you don't see to understand WHY. It all comes back to profit margin, and whether the 512mb shaved their profit margin too much, or Apple thought 512mb would be a good incentive to buy their ipad refresh, either way it comes down to making more money off of customers, which is how companies work.

Both of these products have been in development for quite some time, so why is it Apple can't share r&d for their own products. Why would they release 2 products within 2 months of each other based on the same os and yet the cheaper product gets superior hardware.

Because then you wouldn't be as compelled to upgrade to iPad 2.
 
Well, look at it this way.Let's say you bought a 2010 Ferrari,but next year the 2011 model comes out,does that make the 2010 model useless and incompetent?

Way too many whiners here! On his 3rd iPad?

Some people are never happy and are always looking for an angle to return something enough times. Guess it makes them feel like they are getting it for free.
I could give a %%#t if I buy an Ipad and then 3 months later a new Iphone comes out. I love the Ipad, and I ordered the new Iphone. They serve different needs. Guess what....one makes phone calls and the other is a web surfing media viewer.

i completely agree with you. the ipad serves its purpose. plus the retina display on the iphone only has 74% of ipads pixels, so ipad is still better. also my ipad is very fast and i believe the ipad is still faster than the iphone 4 so don't whine!

Maybe the money went into the giant battery , you choose , larger battery capacity or more ram ?
