I'm going w/ the iPad and the iPhone 4.

Incidentally, I own multiple pairs of shoes for various situations: dress, casual, beach, running. Typically I don't delay purchasing flip flops because I have a new pair of wingtips.

I loved your post! :) A beautiful analogy indeed.

iPad v1 screen is poor for browsing and reading ebooks
But iPhone 4 screen resolution is just a waist of battery power.
So for me defenitely no iPhone 4, and will keep iPad till notion ink Adam or maybe iPad v2.
For those buying iPad for reading PDF or web think thrice!

 Apple is taking all my money this year. I purchased the Macbook Pro in April, Ipad in May, and I will get the Iphone 4 in June......:D Come on Steve Jobs, I need something for July, August, etc.....................

Don't worry there will be

  • New Apple TV's
  • New Mac Minis
  • New Mac Pros
  • New iPods

Apple has plenty of plans to take your money.......and mine:D

I will be getting an iPhone 4. I currently have a 3G and want the speed boost along with the video recording capabilities. Another factor for me was that the 3G will not get multitasking. Plus I love the new design with the glass back. If it really is scratch resistant it will be great!

I would rather have the iPhone 4 than an iPad. I can take the phone with me in many more situations than I can the iPad. Plus, I already have a MBP and the iPad seems redundant.

I'm sticking with my iPad 3G and iPhone 3GS, for now. I will get some face time with the phone, and make a final decision at that time.

The new argument...."Isn't the iPhone 4 just a tiny iPad"...:D
LOL! That's funny!

Personally, the iPad 3G killed any interest in a smartphone (of any sort) for me. However, I'm probably atypical in that 90% of my cellphone use is to check the time. Heck, a wristwatch would almost entirely replace my cellphone!

So no iPhone of any version number for me. Happy with just an iPad.

I will finally be switching from my iPhone 2G to the iPhone 4 and still plan on using my iPad. Since I don't own a notebook or netbook the iPad has become my main mobile device in the house. Pretty much replaces most of what I would do on a MB/MBP around the house for much less. The iPhone 4 will go with me everywhere while iPad will be used mainly in the house and at school.

Desktop: Mac mini

Middle mobile device: iPad

Mobile device: iPhone

Really no different than many people who own a desktop, notebook/netbook, and phone.

I was very much surprised by my reaction to the iPad. The larger size really makes for an entirely different experience from the iPhone, to the point where, contrary to my expectations, I perceive no redundancy between the two devices. To me it is a question of portability. I am comfortable carrying my iPhone with me anywhere, my iPad in fewer situations, and my MBP in even fewer. The range of their capabilities, to my perception, are ranged in opposite order.

Maybe it's just the novelty factor, but where I have a choice, as I do at home, my preference seems to be the iPad. Even when I'm doing significant typing, I prefer the iPad with the Bluetooth keyboard to my MBP.

So, I'm looking forward to the iPhone 4, but it won't replace the iPad for accessing the Web if I can have it with me. On the other hand, when I'm traveling light (which increasingly is the optimal way to travel these days), I'm inclined to carry the iPhone and the iPad, and to leave the laptop at home--albeit accessible through the Internet if I need its data.

Now all I have to do is to get over the guilt I feel when I ignore one device too long.

Not sure about you guys, but I kinda want an iphone nano.

Something I can make calls on and slap a couple gigs of iTunes on and go. Perhaps in the form factor of a bluetooth headset, or something that clips onto the shirt.

Same with me! I replaced my 11 month MBP in April, got the iPad on day of release in May, but we gotta wait til July for the iPhone 4 :( oh well June 30 is end of financial year in Australia, so I can claim the MBP and iPad as a tax reduction some how I'm sure and fund the iPhone, which is also tax deductible woo hoo

I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and I love it, and I signed only a 1 year contract with Verizon in hopes of the iPhone 4 being EPIC (which it was :D) so I will preorder the iPhone and keep my iPad. They both serve their purposes.
