The issue of Safari reloading pages when switching tabs drives me nuts as well. Funny thing is there seems to be no consistency, sometimes when you switch tabs it won't reload the page and sometimes it will, even if you have only been away from a tab for seconds many times it will reload the page. This defeats the purpose of opening a link in a new tab to save the time of going forward and back again.

Also Apple please give us the option to open a link in a new tab without immediately switching to the new tab. I want to open links in new tabs for later reading, not immediately.

Depends on how many tabs you have open, how much data was in those pages, what other apps you've been running - sometimes I switch to another app, get something, then come back to find that tab issue. There's lots of things other than just the tabs and number of tabs.

Many (though not all) of these pet peeves are actually just people not knowing how to do something with the iPad. But, that doesn't mean the users are stupid - it means that Apple hasn't done a good job of education. There ought to be some kind of help button, or help app which brings up short video clips showing you how to do various things... maybe even just some random tips & tricks.

For example how would anyone know to do the 2-finger scroll in a text box if they're not reading iPad forums all day? This is a useful feature... minor, but useful.

There is a user's guide, but it's a bit buried, and not as snazzy as a bunch of short video clips...

[*]When I turn on Wifi, iPad doesn't automatically connect to known networks.
[*]Wifi will miraculously lose connection after what seems to be less than a minute of being idle.

I think that just about covers it. Nothing really major, but things I hope would be addressed in the next OS or hardware upgrade.

One can only hope.

maybe its your internet or your router. because i don't have a problem with my wifi connection. My push alerts alert me through out the night and day.

The only issues I have that won't be addressed by 4.0 is the Safari issue and iCab takes care of that. As a side note I have heard on this forum that a lot of people are using their iPhone less and iPad more. I am actually using both more. Because of the screen size of the iPad I have learned better how to use my iPhone, don't get me wrong, I'm old, not blind, but you tend to experiment more with the iPad because of screen size and where you use it. This has taught me new things and actually enhanced my iPhone use.

1) The lack of caching is particularly annoying.

2) Lack of ability to adjust sound/brightness on screen -- yes, some apps have this, but it's not a universal feature of the OS. It should be.

3) The screen is too sensitive to cut and past highlighting when slowly scrolling through a web page. Is there a way to temporarily deactivate? If not there should be.
1) Virtual Memory hack.
2) SBSettings.
3) No idea on that. :p

The Spirit jailbreak, is quick, easy and painless, so there really is no excuse not to do it, to get the extra functionality you seek.

Thanks for the suggestion of Atomic Browser, I have been trying out and it's much better than Safari, really looking forward to their next updated version as well.

Using the crappy Infineon PMB6952 3G chip which limits uploads to 384kbps
no video cam built in. Imagine the face to face you could do with the millions of ipad owners. Seems like a simple $5 feature that was left out. I am sure it will be in the next model but then that will leave the millions of ipads wo the ability.

If I get poor reception on a protected network I've joined before, the iPad will report that I had an incorrect password. I have to cancel and wait a little bit to see if the iPad will eventually connect, or turn WiFi off and back on, and sometimes it'll reoccur.

If I accidentally press OK when trying to dismiss the prompt, it'll try to log in without a password, fail, and forget the password permanently.

This is especially annoying with a 26-character hexadecimal password at work. >_<

My peeves too

App store going out to download new app is a little frustrating but even more was while I was traveling I was uploading photos from my camera with my handy adapter and they just remain organized by date so you cannot manage photos at all unless hooked into my MAC. Are you kidding? I even went into store to see if techs knew how to manage events and they too seemed quite surprised such a simple feature is not present. Hopefully an update can fix this for sure!

I just got my iPad last night and I'm disappointed that we have gone backwards with the ipod app. Now videos and music are separated and when i play a playlist that has videos in it, the song will play but only the cover art shows. The video doesn't play. This was fixed some time ago with the iPhone. Why did we revert back?

Not really an iPad specific peeve, but it drives me nuts in the App Store when I'm browsing a category, and I'm 10 pages into the list, when I tap on an app, then tap "back" and it takes me all the way back to the very first page.

iPad specific...Safari's crap cache. If Atomic and iCab can keep tabs open without refreshing them, why can't Safari? They all use the same core code, no? I also don't understand why navigating back one pages ALWAYS causes a reload. Even the iPhone doesn't do that.

From a UI standpoint, l hate that I have to move my hand all over the screen to use many apps. Commonly used buttons should be in the same general place on the screen. Really hope gestures are coming, especially in Safari.

The dreaded Home button: accidentally hitting it when I'm in an app - particularly X-Plane, NFS Shift, abc or Netflix, and losing wherever I was.

Drives me batty there's no way to disable or lock it.

"When iPad is locked and you pause the music, if you wait to long you will not be able to play it again from the locked screen".

You can resume playback via Apple earphone (or any other brand) with remote control center button.

What bothers me is the Back/Forward page buttons in Safari being at the top. The iPhone is at the bottom. When you read a web page, you read from top to bottom so it makes sense to have those functions at the bottom, like the iPhone. Now I have to learn to adjust myself to the two devices. WTF right?

  1. DPI/pixel density is inferior today, and moreso compared to the upcoming iPhone.
  2. I crashed Safari several times on web pages which work just fine on desktop Safari.
  3. It's slow. Some things are fast, but some apps experience delays of 1-2 seconds after making a selection and are sluggish. The Weather Channel, ABC, and some others seemed to struggle at times.
  4. App Store is not intuitive. I tried to find the "Free" category but couldn't get anywhere, maybe I'm just getting old. App Store crashed on me once.
  5. No SMS chat on the 3G version, no iChat on the WiFi-only version. Extremely boneheaded omission by Apple.
  6. No camera, obviously.
Here's hoping the next generation iPad will be all that it should have been.

My only pet peeve is that with two young children and a load of responsibilities and priorities at home as well as other distractions like sports and movies and activities and functions, well let's just say life in general, I don't get to use it very much.

As for the curved rocking back, I think it makes it easier to pick up. With a flat back you couldn't easily just reach your fingers under the edge to grip it.

I would think with two kids you would be always waiting around. And where a desktop would be impossible, and a laptop would be impractical, the iPad would be perfect. Get yourself a grip grip and take that pad where they go...from play ground to doctors offices, etc.

Good point about the curved bottom. I only wish It wasn't so smooth. I jape put grips on one and in an emergency some black duct tape that is working out really well. In fact I am thinking gaffers tape will be perfect for when the pad is out it's case.

My pet peeve list would be very long if it were not for being JBed. With JB, my only serious PP is the lack of dang arrow keys. I type a lot on the pad as I am out and about...and I spend a lot of time dealing with the lack of arrow keys.

I missed this one. What do you mean? Thanks.

3-finger horizontal swipe for back/fwd will be coming in 4.0 for iPad for sure.

Use the iPad upside down ~ Home button is then on the top.:)

The apps I mentioned all are best in landscape, which is when I have this problem. Nothing like being in the midst of an engulfing death-defying plunge on X-Plane, or a blissfully dizzying 200mph drift in NFS, then suddenly seeing your wallpaper. Un-nerving to say the least.

It's pretty much coitus-interruptus.
