Taking photos of screens, especially with AF, will never yield quality/true results. Too many variables.

iPad Pro iPad Pro 10.5 bad text sharpness

I agree with the OP. As impressed as I am with the 10.5 pro, there are times when the text is a little fuzzy. I’ve installed iOS 11, which did seem to make it better in most places, some apps are still not great though. I notice a distinct difference in text in Kindle vs iBooks, for example.
I think this is just the result of increasing size and resolution and perhaps some apps haven’t optimized for it yet. Also, it’s still 264 ppi, which is nice, but doesn’t pass the sweet spot of 300 to make pixels largely indiscernible.
Text was never perfectly crisp on the 9.7 and up iPads, which is why I will keep a retina iPad mini as a dedicated reading device as long as possible. It’s got a higher ppi than the larger iPads.

The developers of Affinity Photo said that unless you specifically cater for the new 10.5 resolution, the 9.7 resolution is used by default and scaled up for the new screen. This could possibly explain why the text does not look sharp but is improved with iOS 11.

I wonder if 10.3.3 will take care of this, which should be out way before the 11 release. I doubt many have tried the 10.3.3 beta on the new iPads with the 11 beta being out.
I had try 10.3.2, 10.3.3 beta and 11.0 beta with no sharpness improvements.
Tomorrow i'll receive the second ipp 10.5.... and i hope that it don't have any blurry text at least on Safari....otherwise i return both 10.5 and take a of last 9.7 pro or keep my super clear Air 1 for some other month and try a third 10.5.

I know the problem of apps not updaded for 10.5 that downscale resolution of iPad to 9.7...generating blurry text and content (Watch the battery status bar that became bigger...)

Unfortunately the text is not so sharp on Safari also.... And Safari is a native app.
Text is sharper on my 10.5 than my ipp 9.7. I think it all down to the panel lottery or the quality of the glass touchscreen.
Settings and homepage titles seem ok and clear.... keyboard a bit blurry
Yes, there is another thread similar to this one (more related to the fact that the 10.5 is less easy to read than the 9.7). Thanks for the image. This validates my concerns.

I would take a screenshot of any screens where you think it is blurry and then view the original screenshot on a computer. If it looks fine then it is how the panel is displaying it. If it still looks blurry on the computer then it has been scaled so a software issue.
Yes...i know your thread...This means that there is definitely a problem, with someone or some device.
We must undestand if related to:
- Single iPad defective
- Screen type and glass adopted
- Technologies adopted (promotion etc)
- Antialias optimization
- Software optimization

I remember when I purchased my first iPad (the iPad 3) and the text on one was a lot fuzzier than the one I replaced it for, which was Sharp as a tac. It’s definitely a lottery with Apple.

Safari is a bit of a weird beast. It doesn't render the same way as most apps do. So there's probably a couple ways it could break without it being an OS bug or hardware issue.
Unfortunately, I can't really see this particular issue on a couple sample sites between my 10.5" and earlier iPads. Looks sharp as ever. In my case, I have to make sure I'm not wearing my glasses for fine comparisons though, I get a bit of chromatic aberration from them which can make edges look fuzzy, depending on the angle.
I don't doubt there is a way to reproduce it though, and would be curious what sites make it the most obvious.
I actually think it's down to the number of apps that don't properly support layout constraints yet. 12.9" iPad users have been seeing this for the last 18 months, but it's more obvious what is a good or bad app with the 12.9". On the 10.5", it isn't. You just get the annoying blur from the fractional scaling.
EDIT: Though if there is definitely a difference between different panels in the same model, I'd buy that there could be some defect. Not sure how you'd get a defect like that in an LCD, but I'd buy it.
If you zoom in, you can clearly see the iPad air 1 keyboard key letters are more sharp. Not very nice for a premium priced product.
This is such a shame. It shouldn't be so with such "premium" products commanding premium prices.
Also, I truly have been lucky and/or blessed. I am the type of person who would not be able to stand many of the imperfections that people point out, on this website, with their new iDevices. Every one of my iDevices (6-7 of them) has been perfect to my eyes and worthy of keeping/not needing to be replaced.
The keyboard often overlays whatever screen it's on remaining semitransparent, so it's most likely just an the image "behind" the keyboard.
I have seen multiple App Store updates mentioning optimization for the 10.5" screen. That's probably why the keyboard looks fuzzy - I'm pretty sure it's only in some apps. If you open it in e.g. Spotlight it should not have the optimization issue.
I would assume this is why people have been complaining about headaches/vision issues with the new models. Are we looking at a panel lottery here or is something strange going on software wise?

Zenbrush 2 and Duet Display are 2. Duet Display doesn't mention 10.5" explicitly though.
You would think, but Apple's legendary secrecy applies even internally - so internal departments often have to wait for the actual release before making changes, even something as crucial to the hardware like Operating System default apps....
